Sheet Metal Mechanic
Job Description
This role focuses on commercial construction projects in the Knoxville and Morristown areas, performing installation, fabrication, and layout of ductwork and related HVAC sheet metal systems. You will work with hand and power tools to install and fabricate sheet metal components, interpret blueprints, and ensure all work meets safety and quality standards. The position requires a dependable, safety-conscious professional who can work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Responsibilities- Install, fabricate, and lay out ductwork and HVAC sheet metal systems for commercial construction projects.
- Read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings to determine material requirements, layout, and installation methods.
- Measure, cut, assemble, and secure sheet metal components using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Perform sheet metal installation and duct installation in accordance with industry standards and local codes.
- Work with HVAC split systems and associated mechanical components as part of the sheet metal and ductwork scope.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, following OSHA guidelines and company safety policies at all times.
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks and also collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Inspect completed work to ensure proper function, alignment, and adherence to quality standards.
- Keep work areas organized, clean, and compliant with safety requirements in a fast-paced construction setting.
- Communicate proactively with supervisors and team members about project progress, issues, and material needs.
- At least 5 years of experience as a Sheet Metal Mechanic in commercial construction.
- Strong experience with installation, fabrication, and layout of ductwork and HVAC sheet metal systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools commonly used in sheet metal and mechanical construction work.
- Solid understanding of mechanical and construction practices related to sheet metal and ductwork.
- Demonstrated dependability and strong work ethic in a construction environment.
- Safety-conscious mindset with adherence to OSHA standards and company safety policies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
- Experience working with HVAC sheet metal and split systems in commercial settings.
- OSHA 10 certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Familiarity with fast-paced, safety-focused construction environments.
- Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Interest in ongoing skills development in plumbing, HVAC, sheet metal, and electrical services through apprentice programs.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
