Job Description
The CNC Technician supports and optimizes CNC programming and manufacturing processes to improve production efficiency and ensure parts meet customer specifications. This role combines hands-on work on the production floor with technical and design activities at a desk, including troubleshooting CNC programs, analyzing tooling, preparing technical documentation, and contributing to cost-reduction and process improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assist with CNC programming by reviewing existing code and enhancing programs to increase production efficiency for equipment such as Boschert, Franklin, and turret machines.
- Support CNC operators on the production floor by troubleshooting program issues and resolving machining problems in real time.
- Inspect and check parts on the floor to verify they meet specifications, using appropriate measuring tools and techniques.
- Analyze tooling usage and tooling costs, and make recommendations to improve tool life and support tooling recycling programs.
- Maintain manufacturing processes to ensure fabricated products meet the fit, form, and functionality requirements of customer designs.
- Interact with customers when needed to review designs for manufacturability and support design revisions that improve production outcomes.
- Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including test plans, inspection standards, reports, and design specifications.
- Deliver presentations to employees and leadership to communicate technical findings, process changes, and design specifications as needed.
- Collaborate with customers and suppliers to define equipment and tooling requirements and identify areas for improvement.
- Lead the development and implementation of best practices and methodologies in engineering and manufacturing processes.
- Complete mechanical design projects using CAD systems when required, including reading schematics and creating or updating prints and fixtures.
- Identify and drive improvement opportunities across manufacturing processes and workflows.
- Reduce operational costs through cost-reduction ideas and initiatives, process improvements, and evaluation of new technologies.
- Use troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues related to CNC programming, tooling, and part quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to ensure accurate setup, programming, and fabrication of parts.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience in CNC or related equipment programming.
- Proficiency in CNC programming, including setup activities and program review.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics accurately.
- Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation such as test plans and inspection standards.
- Skill in using measuring tools such as calipers for precise part measurement and verification.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools, with the ability to support mechanical design projects as required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for resolving CNC program and process issues on the manufacturing floor.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office for documentation, reporting, and presentations.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent technical education.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with AutoCAD to read schematics, create generic prints, or design fixtures.
- Knowledge of G-code programming for CNC machines.
- Familiarity with tooling cost analysis and tooling life optimization.
- Ability to present technical information clearly to both employees and leadership.
- Experience interacting with customers and suppliers regarding design, equipment, and tooling requirements.
Work Environment
This role is based in a fabrication building and involves approximately a 50/50 split between work on the manufacturing floor and desk-based tasks. The manufacturing floor environment is hot, dirty, and loud, and the technician will regularly pull samples and inspect parts in these conditions. The position follows a 2-2-3 schedule, providing multiple days off during the month (for example: work Thursday/Friday, off Saturday/Sunday/Monday, work Tuesday/Wednesday, off Thursday/Friday, work Saturday/Sunday/Monday). Training occurs on day shift from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the role transitioning to night shift from 5:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. after a few weeks. The organization provides monthly employee lunches and uses a mix of CNC machinery, CAD tools, measuring instruments, and standard office software in daily operations.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Eminence, KY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
