The Shop Helper assembles precision industrial safety interlocks used in manufacturing and machine safety applications. This role focuses on mechanical and electromechanical assembly, configuration of key sequences to customer specifications, and thorough functional testing to ensure reliable and safe operation of all products.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble mechanical and electromechanical safety interlocks according to engineering drawings and detailed work instructions.
  • Configure key sequences and components to meet specific customer requirements and application needs.
  • Perform functional testing and quality checks on assembled products to verify proper operation and adherence to specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment to achieve tight tolerances and high-quality assembly standards.
  • Handle and assemble very small parts and components with precision and care.
  • Complete production, inspection, and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Follow all established safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures throughout the production process.
  • Communicate issues, nonconformances, and improvement ideas clearly and promptly to production, quality, and engineering teams.
  • Work effectively in an assembly line environment, performing repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and consistency.
  • Support packing and related shop tasks as needed to meet production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to perform mechanical and electromechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to work with very small pieces and parts with steady hands and careful attention.
  • Ability to read and understand basic assembly drawings and follow detailed written instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate assembly, configuration, and documentation.
  • Solid problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues during assembly and testing.
  • Comfort working in a repetitive, assembly line environment while maintaining quality and productivity.
  • Good attendance and reliability, with a commitment to being on time and present for scheduled shifts.
  • Willingness to work overtime when required to meet production demands.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of manufacturing assembly or mechanical experience preferred.
  • Experience with precision assembly or working to tight tolerances is a plus.
  • Familiarity with inspection tools, such as measuring devices or gauges, is beneficial.
  • Experience with safety devices or safety-related products is a plus.
  • Basic mechanical experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to interpret simple blueprints or diagrams is advantageous.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and power tools in a production environment.

Work Environment

This is a first-shift position, typically running from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation of working overtime when needed to support production demands. The work takes place in a manufacturing environment focused on producing precision safety components, including mechanical interlocks, electromechanical interlocks, solenoid key release units, time delay key release units, transfer panels, and smart technology products. Team members use hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment to assemble products that must follow a precise sequential pattern of safe operations. The environment emphasizes safety, quality, and adherence to procedures, with close collaboration among production, quality, and engineering teams.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NORTH CANTON, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
