Job Description
The Construction Laborer supports the construction, refurbishment, and cleanup of trailer offices and yard areas. This role involves hands-on work such as drywall, painting, basic carpentry, general cleanup, and power washing in a physically demanding, outdoor environment. You will use hand and power tools daily, follow structured safety procedures, and contribute to a small, collaborative team.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the construction and refurbishment of trailer offices from setup through completion.
- Hang drywall, tape, and finish surfaces as needed for trailer office interiors.
- Paint interior and exterior surfaces to meet quality and appearance standards.
- Perform basic carpentry tasks, including measuring, cutting, and assembling materials.
- Clean and prepare trailers after they return from job sites, ensuring they are ready for reuse.
- Perform yard work, including general cleanup, landscaping support, and organization of materials.
- Conduct power washing of trailers, equipment, and yard areas as required.
- Safely operate and maintain basic hand and power tools in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Use tools such as tape measures, hand tools, and power tools to complete construction and assembly tasks accurately.
- Assist with concrete, assembly, packaging, and general production tasks as assigned.
- Support remodeling, drywall repair, painting, and minor apartment-style unit repairs when needed.
- Follow and adhere to established safety procedures and standards at all times.
- Complete the Field Level Hazard form daily, documenting tasks and identifying potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including regular cleanup of debris and materials.
- Lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
- Work effectively within a small team, following directions and contributing to shared goals.
- Adapt to working in a dirty, wet, hot, outdoor environment that is not temperature controlled.
- Participate in training and apply learned construction skills to daily tasks.
- Support forklift, man lift, or other equipment operations if qualified and directed.
Essential Skills
- Previous experience using hand tools and/or power tools.
- Some construction experience, even if not extensive.
- Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent bending, twisting, and standing throughout the day.
- Strong record of safety mindfulness and consistent adherence to safety standards.
- Comfort working in a dirty, hot, wet, outdoor environment that is not temperature controlled.
- Experience using power tools in a work or project setting.
- Prior experience in an organized, procedural, or corporate work environment that emphasizes safety awareness.
- Positive attitude and willingness to follow directions from supervisors and team leads.
- Ability to work well in a structured corporate setting with clear processes and procedures.
- Comfort receiving constant direction and feedback from others to ensure safe and accurate work.
- Basic familiarity with general labor tasks such as cleaning, assembly, and general production work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous construction experience, including residential, commercial, or light industrial work.
- Experience with drywall installation and finishing.
- Basic carpentry experience, including framing, repairs, or interior build-outs.
- Experience with epoxy floors, remodeling, or apartment unit repairs.
- Forklift or heavy equipment operating experience.
- Experience operating man lifts or similar elevated work platforms.
- Exoperience in landscaping, concrete work, or general construction labor.
- Experience with painting, remodeling, and general construction cleanup.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools such as tape measures, drills, saws, and grinders.
- Ability to work overtime and longer shifts when required.

Work Environment
This role is based in a physically demanding, outdoor environment that is often dirty, wet, and not temperature controlled. You will work primarily outside around trailer offices, yard areas, and construction zones. Training hours are typically 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and after approximately 2 to 5 weeks of training, standard hours shift to 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Expect 10-hour days and regular overtime, and you must be open to working extended hours as needed. The team size is small, with fewer than 10 employees, which fosters close collaboration and direct communication. You will regularly use hand and power tools, and may work around forklifts, man lifts, and other equipment. The environment is structured and procedural, with a strong emphasis on safety and adherence to established guidelines. Appropriate work attire should be durable and suitable for dirty, wet, and hot outdoor conditions.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Normal, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
