This role supports the smooth flow of a custom fabrication shop that produces large and small-scale projects, including sawdust collection and disposal systems with large steel buckets that load dust into trucks for removal. As a Shop Helper, you assist both paint preparation and production activities by using hand and power tools for assembly, grinding, and general shop support tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Support overall shop operations to ensure an efficient and organized workflow.
  • Assist with paint preparation, including cleaning, masking, and staging parts for finishing.
  • Use hand and power tools to perform basic assembly, grinding, and fabrication support tasks.
  • Handle materials throughout the shop, including loading, unloading, and palletizing products and components.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities, including loading trucks and organizing outgoing and incoming materials.
  • Operate a sit-down forklift to move materials, parts, and finished products safely around the facility.
  • Maintain accurate inventory by helping track, store, and organize materials and finished goods.
  • Work safely and comfortably in a manufacturing and construction-type environment, following all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Keep work areas clean, orderly, and well-organized to support productivity and safety.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly to coordinate tasks and meet production needs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of experience working in manufacturing or construction environments.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a manufacturing, fabrication, or construction-type setting.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools for basic assembly and grinding tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of shipping and receiving processes, including loading and unloading materials.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate a sit-down forklift for materials handling.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in handling parts, materials, and documentation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, moving, and palletizing materials.
  • Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and shop protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bandsaw experience preferred for cutting and preparing materials.
  • Experience with materials handling, including loading trucks and palletizing products.
  • Comfort working in a smaller, custom fabrication shop environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing production needs and support different areas of the shop as required.

Work Environment

This position is based in a custom fabrication shop that specializes in both large-scale systems and small custom jobs, with a workforce of approximately 40–50 employees. The environment is manufacturing and construction-like, with regular use of hand and power tools, forklifts, and materials handling equipment. Work is performed on a day shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The facility operates as a family-run shop, fostering close working relationships and a collaborative atmosphere. Attire is typical for a fabrication and manufacturing setting, where practical, durable clothing suitable for physical work and safety requirements is expected.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sandy, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
