The Field Service Technician installs, services, troubleshoots, and repairs custom-built industrial machinery, including electronic and hydraulic bending machines, tube cut-off machines, expanding machines, fin lines, and dies. This role provides hands-on technical support for machine installations, maintenance, upgrades, repairs, and customer training at customer facilities. The position requires frequent domestic and international travel, with approximately 50% of time spent on the road.

Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, and start up new industrial equipment at customer sites, ensuring machines operate safely and efficiently.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of electronic, hydraulic, and mechanical components on custom-built machinery.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, adjustments, and upgrades on bending machines, tube cut-off machines, expanding machines, fin lines, and dies.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately.
  • Assemble machinery and related components, ensuring proper alignment, calibration, and functionality.
  • Provide on-site technical support to customers, resolving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems in a timely manner.
  • Train customer personnel on proper machine operation, maintenance procedures, and basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Document service activities, repairs, and parts used, and communicate findings and recommendations clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Work independently in the field, managing schedules, travel, and priorities to meet customer needs and project deadlines.
  • Maintain a strong customer service focus, representing the company professionally while working at domestic and international customer facilities.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial machinery.
  • Hands-on experience with machine maintenance, assembly, and installation.
  • Proven experience commissioning and starting up new equipment.
  • Basic electrical knowledge related to industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, blueprints, and basic electrical schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
  • Customer service orientation, with the ability to build rapport and manage customer expectations.
  • Ability to work independently in the field and solve complex technical problems with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 50% of the time.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with electrical design or documentation tools such as AutoCAD or EPLAN.
  • Hands-on experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read and understand basic wiring diagrams and electrical schematics.
  • Prior experience as a maintenance technician or in a field service role supporting industrial equipment.
  • Strong assembly, machining, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide customer training and explain technical concepts clearly.
Work Environment

The role begins with 6–12 months of on-site training at the main facility in Sturgis, providing extensive hands-on exposure to the company’s custom-built machinery and processes. After training, Field Service Technicians typically work 40–45 hours per week, with approximately half of their time spent traveling to customer sites. Travel includes both domestic and international destinations, with trips generally not exceeding 10 days at a time, except for certain international assignments. While traveling, technicians receive overtime pay at 1.5x, and flights and hotels are expensed and covered. A daily food allowance is provided while on the road. The company operates with the stability and resources of a larger organization while maintaining a close-knit, family-oriented culture. Work is primarily performed in industrial and manufacturing environments at customer facilities, requiring comfort with machinery, tools, and technical equipment, along with appropriate work attire suitable for shop and plant settings.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sturgis, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
