The Advanced Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for end-to-end automation for HVAC products, including heat exchangers and full unit assembly for vertical and data center chillers. This role combines deep technical expertise with business impact, focusing on high-value automation opportunities, building investment cases, and leading execution through commissioning to achieve sustained performance improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver automation across products and processes, focusing on heat exchanger automation for water and air-cooled systems and final assembly automation.
  • Own or support PLC/HMI/safety logic for manufacturing automation systems, driving reliability improvements through enhanced diagnostics and fault recovery.
  • Identify and quantify hard savings opportunities tied to automation, including labor reduction, scrap and rework reduction, and downtime reduction.
  • Lead suppliers and integrators end-to-end, including requirements definition, technical evaluation, acceptance criteria, commissioning, and ramp-up.
  • Embed safety and compliance into automation design and commissioning, partnering with engineers to maintain quality and defect reduction.
  • Drive continuous improvement using data-based root cause analysis and develop standards for automation.

Essential Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of experience in delivering manufacturing automation in production environments
  • 8+ years of experience in building business cases and delivering verified savings
  • 8+ years of experience in commissioning and sustaining automation systems
  • Ability to translate manufacturing problems into measurable improvement initiatives
  • Leadership in manufacturing automation delivery and controls testing process
  • Vendor leadership and excellent communication skills
  • Six Sigma certification

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s a plus)
  • Experience with heat exchanger manufacturing and commercial HVAC chiller assembly
  • Experience with automated welding, brazing processes, and leak/pressure testing
  • Familiarity with MES/traceability, test data acquisition systems, and industrial networking
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement leadership experience
  • Control panel process and automation expertise

This is a Contract position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
