Job Description
This Architectural Job Captain role focuses on leading multi-family, mixed-use, commercial, and preservation projects, with an emphasis on affordable housing and large rehabilitation efforts across New York State and New York City. You will manage project delivery from design development through construction documentation and administration, coordinating with internal teams and external consultants while producing high-quality drawings and specifications. The position offers a hybrid work schedule and the opportunity to contribute to award-winning work in multi-family housing, mixed-use developments, and charter school projects in multiple states.
Responsibilities
- Lead architectural project efforts for multi-family, mixed-use, commercial, and NYCHA projects across New York State and New York City.
- Produce and coordinate comprehensive construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for renovation, restoration, and rehabilitation of large multifamily portfolios and thousands of apartments throughout the New York City region.
- Manage multiple filings and drawing sets for large preservation and rehabilitation projects distributed across the NY metro area.
- Oversee and mentor a team of junior architects and coordinate with external consultants to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
- Maintain strong client relationships, communicate project status clearly, and consistently commit to and meet project deadlines.
- Apply excellent knowledge of building codes for multi-family projects to ensure compliance and quality in design and documentation.
- Use Revit and AutoCAD to design, detail, and draft architectural plans and related documentation.
- Conduct site visits as needed to review existing conditions, take measurements, capture site photographs, and develop practical solutions to field conditions.
- Participate in design development for historic preservation and rehabilitation projects, integrating design intent with technical and code requirements.
- Support construction administration activities by responding to field conditions, coordinating revisions, and ensuring alignment between design documents and on-site work.
- Collaborate closely with the broader project team in an open and modern environment, contributing to a culture of shared problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Travel to project sites within the New York metro area as required to support project needs and client expectations.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture.
- 2-3+ years of professional architectural experience, preferably on multi-family projects.
- Strong proficiency in Revit for design, detailing, and production of construction documents.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD for drafting and coordination.
- Excellent knowledge of building codes relevant to multi-family projects.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-family projects in New York State and New York City, including NYCHA work.
- Hands-on experience with construction document preparation and construction documentation.
- Experience in project management, including coordinating teams, managing schedules, and overseeing multiple filings and drawing sets.
- Ability to independently manage tasks and projects as a self-starter who can hit the ground running.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage client relationships and collaborate with team members and consultants.
- Ability to visit project sites and develop practical, constructible solutions to field conditions.
- Experience with design development, architectural design, and detailing for renovation, restoration, and rehabilitation projects.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with historic preservation and rehabilitation projects.
- Background in affordable housing, multi-family, and mixed-use developments.
- Experience working on NYCHA projects and existing conditions assessments.
- Licensed Architect status is a plus.
- Experience with charter school and housing projects in multiple states is beneficial.
- Comfort working with cutting-edge equipment and software in a technology-forward environment.
- Strong soft skills, including collaboration, problem-solving, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
This is a Permanent position based out of Suffern, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $90000.00/hr.
