Job Description
This role involves performing high-quality MIG welding on structural steel components while interpreting blueprints and assembly instructions to build precise fixtures and assemblies. You will work with carbon steel ranging from 16 gauge to 0.5 inches, conduct quality checks to ensure all products meet specifications and dimensions, and contribute to a clean, safe, and well-organized production environment.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret blueprints, assembly instructions, and layout drawings to determine welding requirements and build specifications.
- Perform MIG welding and gas-shielded flux core welding on structural steel components using 16 gauge to 0.5 inch carbon steel.
- Lay out metal and build fixtures according to design and engineering requirements.
- Conduct quality checks to verify that product dimensions and specifications meet required standards.
- Use a tape measure and read measurements accurately down to 1/16 of an inch to ensure precise fabrication and fitting.
- Operate hand grinders and other hand tools to smooth welds and finish welded assemblies to required quality standards.
- Perform welding and fitting tasks in a production environment while maintaining consistent output and quality.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices when working with welding equipment, overhead cranes (if applicable), and hand tools.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to complete projects on schedule and resolve fabrication or fitment issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and care for tools and equipment to ensure reliable operation.
- Minimum 1 year of MIG welding experience on structural steel.
- Proficiency in MIG welding and gas-shielded flux core welding.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and assembly instructions.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure, including 1/16 of an inch increments.
- Experience working with 16 gauge to 0.5 inch carbon steel.
- Ability to perform layout work and build fixtures based on design requirements.
- Skill in using hand grinders and hand tools to smooth and finish welds.
- Capability to work effectively in a production environment with structural steel welding and fabrication.
- Attention to detail and commitment to performing quality checks to ensure specifications and dimensions are met.
- Overhead crane experience is a plus.
- Experience with TIG welding is beneficial.
- Background in structural welding, fitting, and fabrication is an advantage.
- Comfort using a variety of hand tools and production equipment in a fabrication setting.

Work EnvironmentYou will work in a climate-controlled, well-lit, and clean production facility designed to support safe and efficient welding and fabrication work. The standard schedule follows a 4/10 workweek, Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with additional overtime currently available due to demand. The environment includes structural steel fabrication and welding operations, use of MIG and flux core welding equipment, hand grinders, and other hand tools. There is no travel required, allowing you to work consistently in a single, well-maintained location.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
