This role involves performing repetitive mechanical assembly work on large commercial HVAC units in a modern manufacturing facility. You will work at a designated station on an assembly line, using hand and power tools to build high-quality air conditioning units for commercial buildings. The position is on 2nd shift and may be based in one of two plants, with the possibility of moving between facilities as production needs evolve.

Responsibilities
  • Perform repetitive mechanical assembly tasks at a single assigned station on the production line, following established processes and work instructions.
  • Assemble large commercial air conditioning units, including multiple components and subassemblies, to meet quality and production standards.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively on a daily basis to complete assembly tasks.
  • Rotate to different stations or tasks as needed based on production and customer requirements.
  • Stand and move around the facility for a large portion of the shift while performing assembly duties.
  • Participate in and adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including completing safety training during the first week.
  • Perform brazing, soldering, machine and press operation, hanging and unhanging parts, and quality checks and tests once fully trained.
  • Conduct multiple tests on units prior to shipment to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
  • Identify and report any malfunctions, defects, or issues to the production supervisor promptly.
  • Climb into units as needed to assemble internal components, ensuring proper fit and function.
  • Learn to read and understand blueprints and follow them accurately during assembly.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including proper storage and use of tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and follow direction from lead technicians while shadowing and training during the initial weeks.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 months of manufacturing experience.
  • Physical ability to bend, twist, and move comfortably while working inside large units to complete assembly tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repetitively, up to 44 times per shift, based on prior work history.
  • Comfort with climbing into large units to assemble components, within standard safety guidelines.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and machinery.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and processes, including training from the ground up.
  • Positive attitude and reliability in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic experience using hand tools and power tools in a work or similar setting.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain attention to detail during repetitive tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • 1 year or more of assembly experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience with hand tools and power tools beyond basic use.
  • Electrical experience, including basic familiarity with electrical components or conduit bending.
  • Demonstrated mechanical inclination and strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience working on an assembly line or in a structured production environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or willingness to learn quickly.

Work Environment

The role is on 2nd shift, working Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in a temperature-controlled, very clean manufacturing facility. You will work in either a recently established plant or a newly opened plant, both designed with organized workstations and clearly arranged tools for efficient assembly. The environment includes an assembly line setup with multiple stations, and the team is actively building and refining testing stations as the new facility continues to ramp up. You will stand and move throughout the shift and work closely with teammates, with a lead technician providing guidance and shadowing during your first weeks. The facility uses hand tools, power tools, machines, and presses as part of daily operations, and emphasizes safety, organization, and teamwork.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Kentwood, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
