Job Description

This role supports a high-volume warehouse operation by safely unloading, staging, packing, and loading products for a major logistics project. You will work on a mobile workstation to pick and pack orders, manage inventory using RF scanners and computer systems, and ensure all shipments are processed accurately and efficiently. The position operates on a second shift schedule and requires consistent physical activity in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Unload inbound shipments safely and move products to the correct destination within the warehouse.
  • Efficiently stage, stack, and load merchandise in designated areas to support smooth workflow.
  • Move products from staging and unloading areas to the correct load doors and assigned trailers.
  • Ensure trailers are properly secured and chocked before entering, following all safety policies.
  • Load and unload products using appropriate handling techniques to prevent damage and ensure safety.
  • Segregate, check, and stage inbound products accurately according to documentation and instructions.
  • Verify that the driver, trailer, and shipping documents match the specific carrier and location.
  • Count freight with drivers and ensure all shipping and receiving requirements are followed.
  • Load trailers for safe transit and ensure drivers sign all required paperwork and documentation.
  • Perform labeling, sorting, wrapping, packing, and repacking tasks as needed to complete orders.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area, including sweeping and general housekeeping duties.
  • Maintain an organized and orderly desk or office area associated with the mobile workstation.
  • Use a mobile workstation to pack orders, validate inventory counts, print labels, and communicate with drivers.
  • Build pallets, shrink wrap completed pallets, and use a pallet jack to organize and move packed orders.
  • Utilize RF scanners and computer systems to scan products in and out and accurately track inventory in the warehouse management system.
  • Follow all company safety guidelines and operational procedures while performing daily tasks.
  • Perform other assigned duties related to warehouse operations, including cleaning and organizing the work area.
  • Attend orientation and initial training during daytime hours to learn processes, systems, and safety practices.

Essential Skills

  • Previous picking and packing experience in a warehouse or similar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience picking orders based on pick slips or customer order forms.
  • Ability to use a computer or RF scanners to track inventory and process orders.
  • Experience scanning products in and out while packing orders and updating inventory systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
  • Comfort with standing, walking, and lifting for the entire duration of the shift.
  • Reliable use of steel-toed boots or shoes as required personal protective equipment.
  • Basic understanding of shipping, receiving, and warehouse inventory processes.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail when verifying documentation, counts, and shipment accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with material handling tasks such as loading, unloading, and staging freight.
  • General labor roles within a warehouse or logistics environment.
  • Familiarity with RF scanners for order picking and inventory control.
  • Experience using pallet jacks to move and organize pallets within the warehouse.
  • Exposure to shipping and receiving operations in a distribution or logistics setting.
  • Comfort working with warehouse inventory systems and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to work effectively on a second shift schedule from late afternoon to midnight.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with drivers and team members.

Work Environment

The role is based in a brand-new, 628,000 square foot, climate-controlled warehouse that is well lit, extremely clean, and designed for efficient logistics operations. The facility supports a global third-party logistics operation that provides supply chain solutions across multiple transportation modes, including air, truck, and ocean, and serves sectors such as automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, healthcare, consumer retail, and food and beverage. The location employs approximately 250 people, including warehouse and office staff, in a highly client-focused environment where going above and beyond for customers is a core value. This position operates on a second shift schedule from 3:30 p.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday, with an initial orientation and training day from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will regularly use RF scanners, computers, pallet jacks, and standard warehouse equipment to perform daily tasks. The role is physically active, requiring continuous standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working around loading docks and trailers. Steel-toed boots or shoes are required as part of the dress code to ensure safety in the warehouse environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belleville, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
