Job Description
This phlebotomist position focuses on high-volume, hands-on blood collection in an outpatient setting, with a strong emphasis on accurate specimen processing and packaging. You will coordinate closely with clinic staff to schedule blood draws and arrange timely shipment of samples to the testing facility. This role offers both stationary and float opportunities, providing exposure to a variety of clinical environments and ongoing skill development.
Responsibilities- Perform blood draws (venipuncture) approximately 25–30 times per day, ensuring safe, accurate, and efficient specimen collection.
- Properly process collected blood samples according to established protocols, including labeling, handling, and preparation for transport.
- Accurately package specimens for shipment, ensuring they meet all requirements for safe and secure transport to the medical testing site.
- Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule patient blood draws in an orderly and efficient manner.
- Coordinate pick-ups and shipping of collected samples to the designated medical testing facility in Novi/Farmington.
- Apply knowledge of order of draw and BD Vacutainer tube color sequence for multiple tube collections to maintain specimen integrity.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to blood draws, specimen processing, and shipments.
- Follow all clinical and laboratory safety standards, infection control procedures, and quality assurance guidelines.
- Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support smooth clinic operations and a positive patient experience.
- At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant with responsibilities that include drawing, processing, and packaging blood samples.
- Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or certificate.
- Documented experience completing 200 or more solo blood draws.
- Proficiency in venipuncture, including confident, independent performance of blood draws.
- Strong knowledge of order of draw for blood collection.
- Ability to correctly identify and apply BD Vacutainer order of draw tube colors for multiple tube collections.
- Hands-on experience in specimen collection and specimen processing.
- High School Diploma or equivalent education.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and team members.
- Ability to work consistently without planned time off during the first 90 days of employment.
- Previous experience in an outpatient clinical setting.
- Experience working in both stationary and float phlebotomy roles.
- Strong attention to detail in labeling, processing, and packaging specimens.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team in offsite locations.
- Commitment to professional growth through hands-on phlebotomy experience.
- Reliability and punctuality for a full-time weekday schedule.
This role is based in Westland, MI, with coordination to a medical testing facility in the Novi/Farmington area. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Team members wear navy blue scrubs as the standard dress code. The broader team includes approximately 15 people at the main site, while individual offsite locations typically have 0–2 other employees on-site. When working offsite, you may be part of a team of 0–3 people, depending on the location. The environment offers significant hands-on phlebotomy experience in outpatient settings, with opportunities for both stationary and float positions. The role includes structured processes for specimen collection, processing, and packaging, and offers raises at six months, reflecting a focus on development and retention within a collaborative clinical team.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
