This logistics role focuses on completing end-to-end shipping and receiving activities in a modern sheet metal manufacturing environment. The Logistics Specialist loads and unloads trucks, stages materials for shipment, moves raw materials to production areas, and transfers finished parts to final shipping and packaging. The role also includes participating in inventory cycle counts and using computer systems to manage shipments, delivery updates, and carrier coordination.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily shipping and receiving activities, including verifying incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and completeness.
  • Load and unload trucks safely using sit-down or stand-up forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Stage materials and products for shipment, ensuring items are properly labeled, packaged, and organized for timely dispatch.
  • Move raw materials to production areas and transfer finished goods to the final shipping and packaging area.
  • Carry out warehouse duties such as picking and packing orders, organizing inventory, and maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Conduct regular inventory cycle counts and reconcile physical counts with system records to ensure accurate inventory levels.
  • Use computer systems, including Outlook, Excel, and carrier web portals, to manage shipping documentation, track deliveries, and update shipment status.
  • Set up carriers for shipments via phone and web portals, coordinating pickup times and ensuring proper shipping methods and documentation.
  • Provide delivery updates to internal teams and, when needed, external partners to support on-time deliveries and customer satisfaction.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating forklifts and handling materials to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with production, warehouse, and shipping teams to support efficient material flow and on-time order fulfillment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities by identifying opportunities to enhance logistics processes, efficiency, and accuracy.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a logistics role, including shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations.
  • At least 1 year of sit-down or stand-up forklift experience with safe and efficient forklift operation.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with computer systems, including Outlook, Excel, and navigating carrier web portals.
  • At least 6 months of picking and packing experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes, including staging, labeling, and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in shipments, inventory counts, and system updates.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with carriers, internal teams, and other departments.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures, especially when operating forklifts and handling materials.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability or willingness to obtain a Class B license after being hired on a permanent basis.
  • Background in a sheet metal manufacturing environment or similar industrial setting.
  • Experience using shipping software to manage labels, tracking, and freight documentation.
  • Interest in participating in an apprenticeship program or trade-related training.
  • Willingness to learn new systems, equipment, and processes as the facility continues to modernize.
  • Comfort working in a team-focused environment with opportunities for advancement.
  • Openness to ongoing education, including school programs related to trades or office work.

Work Environment

The role is based in a highly safety-focused sheet metal manufacturing facility described as one of the safest shops in the country. The shipping area operates in a brand-new, clean building with plenty of space and high-end equipment, with air conditioning planned to be added. Heavy-duty jackets are provided in the winter to keep employees warm, and personal protective equipment, including safety work boots, is supplied at no cost. The typical shift runs Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule in a structured yet supportive work setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fridley, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
