Job Description
This role provides phlebotomy and specimen processing services in a physician office setting, supporting high-quality laboratory testing and patient care. The phlebotomist collects and processes biological specimens, enters data into the laboratory information system, and performs specified analytical testing while working closely with medical assistants and clinical staff. The position requires strong technical phlebotomy skills, especially with cancer patients and difficult draws, and a collaborative approach within a busy outpatient environment.
Responsibilities- Draw blood from patients, including cancer patients and those with difficult veins, using proper phlebotomy techniques and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Collect and receive biological specimens into the department according to established procedures and protocols.
- Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the company’s computer system and verify data for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare samples for analytical testing, including labeling, centrifugation, aliquoting, and proper storage as required.
- Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical areas in a timely and organized manner to support efficient laboratory workflows.
- Perform specified analytical testing as assigned, following standard operating procedures and quality control requirements.
- Handle pre-analytical tasks such as patient identification, order verification, specimen labeling, and appropriate collection techniques.
- Manage post-analytical tasks including proper specimen disposal, documentation, and communication of any issues or discrepancies to the appropriate staff.
- Follow all applicable guidelines, policies, and the Code of Conduct to maintain compliance, confidentiality, and patient safety.
- Collaborate closely with medical assistants and other clinical staff in the physician office to coordinate patient flow and specimen collection.
- Provide professional, compassionate patient care, explaining procedures and addressing questions or concerns during blood draws.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including phlebotomy stations and specimen processing areas.
- Support a team-oriented environment by communicating effectively, assisting colleagues as needed, and contributing to a positive workplace culture.
- At least 1–2 years of phlebotomy experience, including regular blood draws and specimen collection.
- Demonstrated ability to perform difficult blood draws and work with cancer patients and other medically complex populations.
- Proficiency in specimen processing, including handling, labeling, and preparing samples for analytical testing.
- Experience with laboratory workflows, including collection, receipt, and distribution of biological specimens.
- Ability to accurately enter and manage patient and specimen data in a computer or laboratory information system.
- Strong venipuncture skills and the ability to be an “amazing stick” with a high level of accuracy and minimal patient discomfort.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively with medical assistants, physicians, and other clinical staff.
- High school diploma or GED.

- Strong patient care skills, including clear communication, empathy, and professionalism during all patient interactions.
- Previous experience working in a physician office or outpatient clinic setting.
- Experience working specifically with cancer patients and other patients requiring complex or frequent blood draws.
- Familiarity with laboratory processes in a large, multi-site healthcare organization.

This position is based in a physician office in the East/Central Scottsdale area, where the phlebotomist works on-site drawing the physician’s patients and collaborating closely with medical assistants. The role follows a Monday through Friday schedule, with an 8-hour shift that falls between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The environment is clinical and patient-facing, involving regular interaction with cancer patients and individuals who may require challenging blood draws. Work includes frequent use of phlebotomy equipment, specimen processing tools, and computer systems for data entry and laboratory workflows. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Scottsdale, AZ.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
