Maintenance Technician
Job Description
The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, and repairs production machinery and facility equipment in a clean, food-grade manufacturing environment. This role combines mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic work with hands-on troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and facilities support to keep equipment running safely and efficiently across multiple production lines.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair production machines and facility equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
- Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic troubleshooting on plant equipment and facility systems.
- Carry out preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on production machinery and facility equipment to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, blueprints, and schematics to plan and perform maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnose equipment problems, identify root causes, and replace or repair parts as needed.
- Test equipment after repairs or adjustments to verify proper operation and safety.
- Make necessary adjustments to machinery and control systems to optimize performance and throughput.
- Perform a variety of facilities maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing and carpentry work.
- Use a wide range of hand and power tools, electric meters (such as multimeters), and material handling equipment to complete maintenance activities.
- Support maintenance of pneumatic systems on the plant floor and facilities equipment, including boilers, steam traps, and valves.
- Provide maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting for plant equipment such as conveyors, mixers, cappers, fillers, packaging equipment, motors, labelers, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Work as part of a maintenance team to balance scheduled preventive maintenance with response to equipment breakdowns during the shift.
- Document maintenance activities in work orders and communicate equipment status and issues to team members and supervisors.
- Follow safety procedures and best practices while working with electrical, mechanical, and production equipment in a food-grade environment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform electrical troubleshooting, including proficient use of a multimeter.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience OR completion of a 2-year technical degree in a related field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience working on pneumatic systems on the plant floor.
- Experience maintaining and repairing facilities equipment such as boilers, steam traps, and valves.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Skill in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, equipment manuals, and work orders.
- Hands-on experience working with conveyors and other production line equipment.
- Proficient use of hand tools, power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
- Capability to perform both preventive maintenance and reactive troubleshooting in a production environment.
- Ability to work effectively on 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM) or 3rd shift (11:00 PM–7:00 AM) with potential for a 6-day work week.
- Knowledge of PLCs and ladder logic programming is preferred.
- Experience working in a food-grade or clean manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Background in maintaining production equipment such as mixers, cappers, fillers, packaging equipment, motors, labelers, and VFDs.
- Comfort working in a small-company setting with close collaboration across teams.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex equipment issues.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with maintenance teammates and production staff.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and balance preventive maintenance with urgent repairs.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a small manufacturing facility of approximately 50 employees that produces jams, jellies, and preserves for major retail partners. The environment is food-grade and kept clean, with a laid-back atmosphere that still maintains strong safety and quality standards. Maintenance Technicians work on a team of six, providing maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting for a variety of plant equipment, including conveyors, mixers, cappers, fillers, packaging machinery, motors, labelers, and variable frequency drives (VFDs). A typical day includes a mix of scheduled preventive maintenance and response to equipment breakdowns. The position operates on 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:00 PM) or 3rd shift (11:00 PM–7:00 AM), with five 8-hour shifts per week and an anticipated move to a six-day work week. Employees use hand and power tools, electric meters such as multimeters, and material handling equipment while working in a clean, food-grade production setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
