Job Description

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our pipe fabrication business as an entry-level machine operator. The role involves cutting, threading, and flanging ductile iron pipe for water treatment plants and other related projects. You will operate a large lathe machine, focusing on mechanical tasks crucial for water infrastructure projects. This position offers the opportunity to learn all aspects of pipe fabrication and work with a small, dedicated team.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a large lathe machine to fabricate ductile iron pipes for water treatment plants.
  • Assist in cutting, threading, and flanging pipes.
  • Work with PVC, polyethylene, and ductile iron pipes, as well as fire hydrants, valves, and water meters.
  • Support field services including taps, line stops, and AVT valve insertions.
  • Collaborate with a small team to ensure the efficient operation of the shop.

Essential Skills

  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in machine operation.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor, including heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Capability to learn overhead crane and forklift operation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience running a manual lathe is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in the water/wastewater industry or pipe fabrication is a plus.
  • Knowledge of tolerances is beneficial.

Work Environment

Work in a small shop with 6-8 employees, part of a larger team across the Midwest. The environment can be dirty at times with various machines and piping. Safety attire such as steel-toed boots and long pants are required. Enjoy a collaborative atmosphere where customer interaction is encouraged.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bettendorf, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
