This role focuses on MIG welding on a day shift, working primarily with thicker steel components and 3/4 inch steel plates. You will perform multi-pass horizontal welds, interpret prints and weld symbols, and complete welds on parts that have been tack welded. The position requires strong technical welding skills, attention to detail, and the ability to set up welds correctly for consistent, high-quality results.

Responsibilities
  • Perform MIG welding on 3/4 inch steel plates, ensuring strong, consistent, and clean welds.
  • Execute multi-pass horizontal welds on thicker steel materials according to specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to determine weld requirements and set up.
  • Set up welds properly, including preparing materials, positioning parts, and adjusting welding equipment.
  • Complete and finish welds on parts that have been previously tack welded.
  • Use MIG, GMAW, and flux core welding processes as required for each project.
  • Inspect welds for quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications, making adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety procedures at all times.
  • Collaborate with other team members in the shop to complete work efficiently and on schedule.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of MIG welding experience.
  • Experience welding on steel, including thicker steel materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints and welding blueprints.
  • Solid understanding of weld symbols and their application in setup and execution.
  • Proficiency with MIG (GMAW) welding processes.
  • Ability to perform multi-pass horizontal welds.
  • Capability to set up welds independently, including equipment and material preparation.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using flux core welding processes.
  • Background working at a welding bench and completing multiple weld passes on a single piece.
  • Comfort working with thicker steel plates and structural components.
  • Ability to work effectively on a first-shift schedule.

Work Environment

You will work at welding stations handling thicker steel plates and structural components, using MIG, GMAW, and flux core welding equipment. The environment is production-focused, with an emphasis on safety and quality. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a T-shirt each day.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
