BIM/VDC Specialist (Remote)
Job Description
We are seeking a BIM / VDC Specialist to support the development of high-quality Building Information Models (BIM) for mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. In this role, you will transform design intent documents and 3D design models into detailed fabrication-ready models, collaborating closely with engineers, project managers, contractors, and field teams to ensure successful project execution.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical modeling expertise with excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset. This is a remote position, with occasional participation in virtual or project-related coordination meetings as required.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed BIM models from design intent contract documents and 3D design models using fabrication modeling software.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to produce LOD 400 models for mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Coordinate with general contractors and trade partners to ensure effective spatial coordination across all disciplines.
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings, either virtually or on-site as required by project needs.
- Generate and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) to design teams when clarification is needed.
- Produce detailed shop drawings to support fabrication and installation activities.
- Create and annotate shop, hanger, and sleeve drawings, and export coordinates for field layout.
- Communicate with field personnel to ensure fabrication and installation requirements are clearly understood.
- Mentor and support Junior VDC Specialists in the use of modeling and collaboration software.
- Provide hands-on training related to fabrication and installation drawing development.
- Partner with project teams to deliver accurate drawings and models that align with project schedules and milestones.
- Pursue ongoing professional development and contribute to team training initiatives that improve accuracy and productivity.
- Provide recommendations regarding software and hardware needs that support project efficiency.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication CADmep, and Autodesk Navisworks.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical or plumbing system installation and/or 3D modeling.
- Familiarity with additional BIM-related software is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong proficiency with Windows-based computer systems and related software tools.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate options and recommend practical solutions.

This is a remote position, offering the flexibility to work from home while collaborating with project teams across multiple locations. The role involves regular interaction with engineers, project managers, contractors, and field personnel through virtual meetings and collaboration platforms. Occasional project-related site visits or in-person coordination meetings may be required based on business needs.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Raleigh, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $70.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
