Job Description
The Buyer will play a key role in improving purchase order processing, reducing past due and unconfirmed lines, and strengthening vendor communication within a dynamic supply chain team. This role focuses on ensuring data accuracy and real-time visibility in the ERP system, providing immediate support on past due orders, supplier follow-ups, and purchase order execution. The Buyer will help reduce backlog, lower expedite costs, and minimize production risk while contributing directly to meaningful work that impacts production and customer delivery.
Responsibilities
- Process purchase orders quickly and accurately, including placing, releasing, and maintaining orders within the ERP system.
- Monitor, manage, and resolve past due and unconfirmed purchase order lines to improve on-time delivery and supplier performance.
- Communicate proactively with suppliers, responding to vendor inquiries and coordinating delivery commitments and order status updates.
- Provide immediate support on past due orders by following up with suppliers and internal teams to drive resolution.
- Maintain high data accuracy and real-time visibility in the ERP system to support supply chain planning and decision-making.
- Help reduce backlog and improve visibility into open orders, risks, and constraints across the supply chain.
- Work to reduce expedite costs and mitigate production risks by anticipating issues and taking corrective actions with suppliers.
- Support supplier onboarding, setup, and compliance documentation to ensure vendors meet operational and quality requirements.
- Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams, including planning and operations, to align purchasing activities with production needs.
- Operate effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced procurement environment with shifting priorities and tight deadlines.
- Contribute to supply chain performance improvement initiatives, including KPI recovery and process optimization efforts.
- Multitask across multiple suppliers, commodities, and purchase orders while maintaining attention to detail and responsiveness.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of purchasing experience in a mid-level buyer capacity.
- Hands-on experience placing, releasing, and maintaining purchase orders in an ERP system.
- Demonstrated experience managing past due and unconfirmed purchase order lines and driving timely resolution.
- Proven ability to expedite orders and coordinate supplier delivery commitments to support production schedules.
- Experience with purchasing, supplier management, and general supply chain processes.
- Strong vendor communication skills, including the ability to respond promptly and professionally to suppliers.
- Comfort working in a high-volume, fast-paced procurement environment with competing priorities.
- Ability to multitask and adapt quickly in a reactive supply chain environment.
- Strong communication skills for coordinating across suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.
- Experience with ERP systems (IFS preferred but not required).
- Experience in life sciences, medical devices, or medical instruments preferred, with openness to related industries such as defense, DoD, or electronics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting supplier onboarding, setup, and compliance documentation.
- Exposure to supply chain performance improvement initiatives or KPI recovery projects.
- Familiarity with quoting processes and supplier negotiations.
- Experience working in a mid-level purchasing role within a structured supply chain team.
- Understanding of reactive supply chain dynamics and the ability to stabilize processes over time.
- Interest in contributing to meaningful work that directly impacts production and customer delivery.
- Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with peers, planners, and other cross-functional partners.
This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
