Job Description

This role focuses on preparing and painting aerospace and metal components using industrial coatings, including epoxies, lacquers, and chromate systems. You will perform detailed surface preparation, mix and apply paints to precise specifications, and ensure high-quality finishes that meet aerospace and industrial standards while working safely in a controlled paint booth environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply final paint color coats and top coats to aerospace and metal components according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Prepare metal and aluminum surfaces for painting through sanding, grinding, and other paint-prep activities.
  • Coat aluminum and other metal surfaces with appropriate primers, including chromate and bond primers, to ensure proper adhesion and corrosion protection.
  • Mix paints, epoxies, resins, and lacquers to the correct ratios and viscosities, following technical data sheets and shop procedures.
  • Operate paint sprayers and other industrial painting equipment to apply coatings evenly and consistently in a paint booth environment.
  • Perform automotive-style and aerospace painting techniques as required for different parts and finishes.
  • Change paints and clean equipment between jobs to avoid contamination and maintain finish quality.
  • Inspect surfaces and coatings before, during, and after application to verify coverage, finish quality, and adherence to specifications.
  • Maintain and replace paint booth filters as needed to ensure a clean, safe, and compliant painting environment.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, and follow all safety procedures while working with paints, solvents, and coatings.
  • Document work performed as required by shop practices, including materials used and processes followed.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate workflow, prioritize tasks, and meet production schedules.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience as an aerospace painter, industrial painter, or automotive painter working with metal components.
  • Hands-on experience with paint preparation, including sanding, grinding, and surface cleaning for metal and aluminum parts.
  • Proficiency in mixing paints, epoxies, resins, and lacquers to specified ratios and consistencies.
  • Ability to apply final color coats, top coats, and primers using paint sprayers in a paint booth environment.
  • Knowledge of chromate primers, bond primers, and other aerospace or industrial coating systems.
  • Familiarity with epoxy coatings and lacquer finishes for metal surfaces.
  • Experience working with paint booths, including basic understanding of airflow, filtration, and contamination control.
  • Capability to wear and work safely with a respirator and other required personal protective equipment.
  • Attention to detail to achieve consistent, high-quality finishes and detect surface imperfections.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including technical data sheets and shop procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Open to both automotive painting and aerospace or industrial painting environments.
  • Experience using paint sprayers and related coating equipment in a production setting.
  • Familiarity with coating aluminum surfaces specifically, including preparation and primer application.
  • Understanding of industrial safety practices related to paints, solvents, and coatings.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability in meeting production schedules and quality expectations.

Work Environment

This position operates in a dedicated paint environment that includes enclosed paint booths and industrial coating equipment. You will work with paints, epoxies, resins, lacquers, chromate primers, and other industrial coatings on metal and aluminum components. The role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment, including a respirator, and adherence to safety and environmental procedures. The work involves standing for extended periods, handling tools for sanding and grinding, and working around ventilation and filtration systems, including maintaining paint booth filters. The setting is production-oriented, with a focus on cleanliness, controlled airflow, and proper handling of all coating materials.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gardena, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
