Job Description
This mid-level CAD Designer role focuses on supporting piping and industrial projects within the oil and gas and related industries. You will produce high-quality 3D models and detailed design packages, including P&IDs, isometrics, and layouts, while collaborating closely with engineering and project teams. You will support multiple small-to-mid-size projects and help maintain an efficient workflow as project volume increases, with clear opportunities for growth into subject matter expert, or leadership roles.
Responsibilities
- Create accurate 3D piping models and detailed layouts using CADWorx, ensuring designs align with project specifications and industry standards.
- Develop and update design deliverables such as isometrics, P&IDs, civil and structural drawings, and detailed plans to support engineers and project managers.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to translate concepts and requirements into practical, constructible designs.
- Support multiple small-to-mid-size projects simultaneously, maintaining organized workflows and prioritizing tasks based on deadlines and project needs.
- Ensure design packages are complete, coordinated, and ready for review, fabrication, and construction, including necessary details and annotations.
- Apply knowledge of oil and gas or similar industrial environments to ensure designs reflect appropriate standards, terminology, and workflows.
- Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback from engineering, project management, and other stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Maintain consistent documentation and drawing standards across projects, helping to improve and standardize design practices where appropriate.
- Manage time effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, proactively communicating progress, risks, and constraints to the project team.
- Contribute to a collaborative, tight-knit team culture by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues, and demonstrating a progression mindset toward leadership roles.
Essential Skills
- 6–10 years of drafting and design experience in oil and gas or a similar industrial environment, with flexibility for approximately 5–12 years for strong technical candidates.
- Hands-on CADWorx experience with 3D modeling, including building piping models and detailed layouts, not limited to 2D drafting.
- Proven experience creating piping and design deliverables such as isometrics, P&IDs, civil drawings, structural drawings, and detailed plans.
- Industrial experience in oil and gas or comparable sectors such as mining or water/wastewater, with an understanding of industry standards, terminology, and workflows.
- Proficiency with CAD tools and 3D modeling for piping and industrial design applications.
- Ability to work closely with engineers and project managers, demonstrating strong collaboration skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining attention to detail and design quality.
- Demonstrated progression mindset with interest in growing into subject matter expert or leadership roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Civil 3D or similar civil design tools for industrial projects.
- Experiencein civil and structural design within industrial facilities.
- Experience working in contract or consulting environments and adapting to varying client standards and project requirements.
- Familiarity with midstream oil and gas projects or other transferable industrial sectors such as mining or water/wastewater.
- Interest in contributing to process improvements, standardization of design practices, and mentoring less experienced team members over time.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite in Colorado Springs and requires in-office presence. The position starts as 100% in-office, with flexibility offered after an initial period of approximately six months, depending on performance and business needs. You will work as part of a tight-knit team that values autonomy, visibility, and collaboration, with a stable pipeline of projects as clients ramp up. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, with opportunities to support multiple small-to-mid-size projects concurrently. Travel is expected at approximately 10–20% to support project needs. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Colorado Springs, CO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.85 - $43.27/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
