Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler to build custom industrial packaging machinery from mechanical drawings and assembly prints. This role focuses on complete machine builds rather than repetitive production assembly, requiring precise assembly of mechanical components, drive systems, bearings, shafts, conveyors, pneumatics, rollers, gearboxes, and machine frames. The position is ideal for someone with hands-on experience assembling industrial equipment, automated machinery, special-purpose machines, conveyor systems, or packaging equipment.
Responsibilities- Build custom industrial packaging machinery from mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly prints.
- Perform complete machine builds, assembling frames, drive systems, bearings, shafts, conveyors, rollers, gearboxes, and related mechanical components.
- Install and align conveyor systems, including belts, pulleys, rollers, and associated hardware to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
- Assemble and install pneumatic and hydraulic components, including cylinders, valves, and related fittings, according to specifications.
- Carry out mechanical repairs such as cylinder repair, motor replacement, and component replacement on industrial machinery and packaging equipment.
- Use hand tools and precision measuring tools to perform accurate mechanical assembly, alignment, and adjustment of machine components.
- Interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints to identify parts, assembly sequences, and installation requirements.
- Install and connect motors, gearboxes, and drive systems, ensuring correct alignment, tensioning of belts, and proper operation.
- Inspect assembled machinery for proper fit, function, and quality, and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
- Support mechanical installation activities for automation equipment, special-purpose machines, and production equipment builds.
- Collaborate with other technicians and assemblers to complete machine builds efficiently and safely.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and handle tools and equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
- Proven experience assembling industrial machinery, automated equipment, conveyor systems, or packaging equipment.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints for machine assembly.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly of bearings, shafts, gearboxes, motors, rollers, belts, and pulley systems.
- Proficiency working with drive systems, including installation, alignment, and adjustment of belts and pulleys.
- Experience with pneumatic systems, including assembly and repair of cylinders, valves, and related components.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic components and their installation in industrial machinery.
- Ability to perform mechanical repairs such as motor replacement, cylinder repair, and component replacement on industrial equipment.
- Skilled use of hand tools and standard mechanical tools for precision assembly and installation.
- Background in roles such as Machine Builder, Mechanical Assembly Technician, Automation Technician, Packaging Equipment Technician, Conveyor Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Millwright, Production Equipment Builder, or Electromechanical Assembler.
- Experience with special-purpose machines and automation equipment assembly.
- Familiarity with industrial equipment installation and mechanical integration in production environments.
- Understanding of conveyor belt systems, including setup, tracking, and maintenance.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues in packaging and production equipment.
- Exposure to electromechanical assembly work, combining mechanical and basic electrical components.
- Background in industrial maintenance or millwright work, supporting machine installation and repair.
- Comfort working from detailed assembly prints and technical documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to precision in mechanical assembly.

Work EnvironmentThe work takes place in an industrial shop or manufacturing setting focused on building custom packaging and automation machinery. You work hands-on with mechanical components, conveyor systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, gearboxes, and drive systems, using hand tools and standard mechanical equipment daily. The environment involves standing, moving around machinery, and working at assembly stations, with attention to safety procedures and organized workspaces. Typical hours follow standard manufacturing or shop schedules, and attire is practical workwear suitable for an industrial setting, with appropriate safety gear as required.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Decatur, AL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
