Job Description

This role involves working on a high-volume production floor as a machine assistant, supporting the operation of fast-paced equipment that produces large quantities of cardboard boxes. You will stand for extended periods, handle and inspect finished products, and move between different areas of the facility to keep production running smoothly. The position requires consistent lifting, attention to detail, and the initiative to stay productive during slower periods.

Responsibilities

  • Work as a machine assistant on the production floor, standing for approximately 9 or more hours per day.
  • Stand at the end of production machines and collect stacks of cardboard boxes at high speeds, with some machines producing up to 400 boxes per minute.
  • Inspect boxes using a tape measure, accurately reading measurements down to 1/8 of an inch to ensure they meet specifications.
  • Handle stacks of boxes efficiently and safely while maintaining a fast work pace and consistent workflow.
  • Move continuously throughout the shift, performing regular lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Assist in different areas of the production floor as needed to support overall production operations.
  • Work in the baler room by visiting each station, collecting excess materials, and transporting them to the baler area for processing.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including sweeping and performing other housekeeping tasks during slower production periods.
  • Monitor machines and assist with basic troubleshooting support as directed by more experienced operators.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to maintain production flow and address issues promptly.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in production operating or machine operating roles.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis throughout the shift.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately to 1/8 of an inch.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced production or general labor environment.
  • Basic machine operation skills, including assisting with machine setup and monitoring.
  • Ability to perform visual inspections and identify defects or measurement issues.
  • Physical stamina to stand for 9 or more hours per day and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Willingness to stay productive and take initiative during slower production periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience running gluer machines.
  • History in general labor within manufacturing or production settings.
  • Exposure to troubleshooting basic machine issues under guidance.
  • Comfort working around balers and material handling equipment.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to maintaining a safe work area.

Work Environment

This position is on the 2nd shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The facility is not climate controlled but remains relatively clean and organized. During the winter, the temperature is generally comfortable, while in the summer it can become warm due to the operating machinery. The role is physically demanding, requiring continuous standing, frequent lifting, and constant movement on the production floor and in the baler room. The dress code requires steel-toe footwear, safety glasses, and hearing protection at all times while on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Caledonia, WI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
