Overview
Anderson Shumaker Company is seeking a full-time Machinist to join our machining department. This position works under the direction of the Lead Machinist and is responsible for machining forged steel components while maintaining quality, safety, and production standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate manual Vertical Turning Lathes (VTLs), engine lathes, mills, and other machining equipment as trained.
  • Read and interpret shop cards, blueprints, sketches, and work instructions.
  • Set up and accurately position workpieces using chucks, fixtures, or clamps.
  • Observe machine operation to detect defects or equipment malfunctions.
  • Measure finished parts using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Make minor machine adjustments and change tooling as required.
  • Sharpen tools as trained and required.
  • Remove burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from machined parts.
  • Complete production paperwork accurately.
  • Transport completed work to the next production operation.
  • Perform routine machine care, including cleaning and basic lubrication.
  • Report quality concerns, suspect material, or equipment issues to the Lead Machinist or supervisor.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company quality policies, work instructions, and safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous machining or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience operating manual VTLs, engine lathes, mills, or similar manual machine tools is preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, shop cards, and measuring instruments.
  • Basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Forklift and overhead crane experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with overtime as required.
