Conventional Horizontal Boring Mill

Core Responsibilities

• Setup & Fixturing: Determine proper tooling, install fixtures, and secure heavy or oversized workpieces to the machine table, often requiring precise manual alignment.
• Machine Operation: Control manual handwheels, dials, and feed mechanisms to mill surfaces, bore large holes, and ream holes to exact blueprint specifications.
• Blueprint Reading: Translate technical drawings, geometric dimensions, and tolerances into a logical, step-by-step machining process.
• Quality Control: Use precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and dial indicators) to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet strict tolerance levels.
• Shop Math & Calculations: Apply geometry and trigonometry to calculate speeds, feeds, and machining reference points.
• Maintenance & Safety: Perform daily maintenance, lubricate moving parts, keep the work area clean, and adhere to strict safety protocols.

Typical Requirements

• Experience: Usually requires 3 to 10 years of hands-on manual machining experience.
• Physical Strength: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work in loud industrial environments.
• Material Knowledge: Experience working with various metals (e.g., stainless steel, carbon steel, cast iron, and aluminum) and understanding their specific cutting characteristics
