Senior Level Machinist
Job Description
We are seeking a highly qualified, senior-level CNC Machinist to join our team! This role is for an experienced craftsperson who can interpret print, run complex multi-axis work independently, and lead by example on the floor.
Responsibilities:
- Operate machine tools — including CNC mills and lathes (4- and 5-axis) — to produce precision parts and instruments
- Modify parts, programs, and processes to improve overall production efficiency and part quality
- Test completed parts to detect and eliminate defects, adjusting process as needed to hold tolerance
- Perform routine maintenance on machinery and troubleshoot issues that arise during production
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using precision measuring instruments
- Set up and operate a range of machinery, including lathes, milling machines, and CNC equipment, for low-volume, high-complexity parts
- Read and interpret complex technical drawings, blueprints, GD&T callouts, and CAD files to determine specifications and production processes
- Measure and inspect in-process and finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators) to ensure parts meet spec
- Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve processes, resolve production challenges, and support new part launches
- Mentor and train junior and mid-level machinists on setups and best practices
- Maintain accurate job documentation
Qualifications:
- Strong CNC machining experience
- Strong blueprint reading skills, including working knowledge of GD&T
- A good feel for precision measuring instruments and confident, hands-on judgment for tool and instrument selection
- Ability to set up and run multi-axis work (4-axis minimum; 5-axis strongly preferred)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with strong attention to detail
- A track record of solving problems on the floor, not just flagging them
- Flexibility to work overtime hours as needed
- **Schedule:** Alternating weeks — Monday–Thursday one week, Monday–Friday the next
- **Pay:** $25–$35/hour, based on experience and skill level
