Expanded Duties Dental Assistant

Position Summary
The Expanded Duties Dental Assistant (EDDA) provides advanced clinical support to the dentist and dental team while delivering safe, efficient, and patient-centered care. The EDDA performs expanded clinical duties within the scope permitted by state regulations, assists with restorative procedures, maintains infection-control standards, and helps ensure a positive patient experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment for dental procedures.
- Assist the dentist during restorative, surgical, endodontic, and other dental procedures.
- Place and finish restorative materials
- Take digital dental radiographs.
- Take impressions, digital scans, and other diagnostic records as directed.
- Apply topical preventive materials, sealants, or other permitted treatments.
- Provide appropriate patient education regarding oral hygiene, post-operative care, and treatment instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and treatment notes.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments, operatories, and clinical surfaces according to OSHA, CDC, and office protocols.
- Monitor and maintain dental equipment, supplies, and inventory.
- Follow HIPAA, OSHA, infection-control, and other applicable regulations.
- Communicate professionally with patients, dentists, hygienists, and other team members.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming clinical environment.
Qualifications
- Current dental assisting certification or credential required as applicable to the state.
- Expanded Dutie certification/permit required where applicable.
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures, instruments, and infection-control practices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Professional, dependable, compassionate, and patient-focused.
- Ability to follow clinical protocols and work effectively as part of a dental team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an EDDA or advanced dental assistant.
- Experience with digital radiography and intraoral scanning.
- Experience with restorative procedures and dental practice management software.
- Familiarity with OSHA, HIPAA, and current infection-prevention standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, and move throughout the dental office for extended periods.
- Ability to work with fine instruments and perform repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to safely lift and move dental equipment and supplies as required.
