Job Description
The BIM Modeler maintains one or more project BIM models and associated BIM support documents to ensure they meet project-specific BIM requirements and internal BIM standards. This role spans from initial project set-up and keeping BIM models free from errors to managing outputs and performing BIM coordination exercises. The BIM Modeler provides direct technical support to project teams and offers feedback on training needs, workflows, and content to the BIM Manager. This position offers the opportunity to grow into a design and coordination role within an industrial and commercial environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up BIM models at the start of projects in alignment with project BIM requirements and company BIM standards.
- Maintain one or more project BIM models throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring models remain accurate, coordinated, and free from errors.
- Develop, update, and manage project BIM support documents, including standards, workflows, and model-related documentation.
- Perform BIM coordination exercises, including model federation workflows, to identify and resolve design and coordination issues.
- Manage BIM outputs and deliverables, ensuring they are produced in the correct formats and meet quality expectations.
- Provide direct technical support to project teams on BIM-related questions, tools, and processes.
- Clearly articulate advanced BIM concepts so that team members at all levels can understand and apply them in their work.
- Teach and mentor others in understanding and using BIM concepts, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and related tools.
- Offer feedback to the BIM Manager on project team requirements for training, workflows, and BIM content.
- Apply ANSI drafting standards and industrial/commercial drafting practices to ensure consistency and quality in documentation.
- Support electrical design practices by integrating relevant information into BIM models and drawings where applicable.
- Collaborate as a team player, contributing to a positive, growth-oriented culture focused on high-quality design and coordination.
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of and proven practical experience in Autodesk Revit, with at least 1 year of relevant experience using Revit.
- Experience with related CAD software, including AutoCAD, for drafting and design tasks.
- Experience in model federation workflows using Navisworks for BIM coordination.
- Solid understanding of core ANSI drafting standards and their application to industrial and commercial projects.
- Familiarity with design practices relating to the electrical field.
- Ability to clearly articulate advanced BIM and design concepts in a way that team members at all levels can understand.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to teach others to understand and use BIM concepts, Revit, Navisworks, and related tools.
- Demonstrated drafting and 3D design skills within industrial and commercial environments.
- Commitment to maintaining high-quality models and documentation that align with established BIM standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in computer-aided drafting or electrical engineering/technology is preferred but not required.
- Experience in industrial and commercial drafting and design is highly beneficial.
- Experience with drafting design, 3D design, and coordination in building or industrial projects.
- Electrical design experience is preferred but not required.
- Ability to grow into a design and coordinating role, showing initiative and passion for professional development.
- Strong team-oriented mindset, with enthusiasm for collaboration and contributing to a supportive work environment.
- Capacity to adapt to evolving BIM standards, workflows, and technologies.
Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with approximately 99% of the work focused on design activities at the Gastonia office location. The role involves working extensively with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and related CAD and BIM tools in an industrial and commercial project setting. Occasional off-site meetings may occur but are rare. The environment supports growth into design and coordination responsibilities, with a focus on collaboration, continuous learning, and high-quality drafting and modeling work.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gastonia, NC.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.06 - $48.08/hr.
