Automation Engineering Technician
Job Description
Salary: 70k-120k (based on experience)
Location: Hybrid/Remote with Field Support
- 30-40% remote collaboration, 60-70% field support across asset footprint
- Western PA, Ohio, and Northern West Virginia
- All travel is fully expensed
Schedule: Monday-Friday (every other Friday off + overtime opportunities)
Must-Haves:
- Local to Western PA, Ohio, and Northern West Virginia
- Associate's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering, Math, Science, or related field OR equivalent military/vocational/direct industry experience
- 5-8+ years of automation, instrumentation, or control systems experience in an industrial environment
- Intermediate computer/software proficiency
- Strong PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen Bradley, Schneider/Modicon preferred)
- Hands-on HMI experience, including screen modifications and support
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and control diagrams
- Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial control systems
- Valid driver's license
Plusses:
- RTU configuration and data exchange experience
- Knowledge of Modbus, Ethernet, RS232/485 communication protocols
- VFD experience
- AC/DC, analog, and digital troubleshooting experience
- Oil & Gas, pipeline, compressor station, or midstream experience
Day-to-Day:
- Support commissioning activities for compressor and pipeline facilities
- Assist with new facility startups and modifications to existing sites
- Gather field data for Automation and Compression Design Engineers
- Assist in specifying, installing, and modifying automation systems
- Install, configure, and calibrate automation and control equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair automated and integrated systems
- Support HMI and PLC software updates and revisions
- Assist with control system configuration, logic, displays, and security settings
- Implement cybersecurity policies, including firmware and password updates
- Provide technical support to field operations teams
- Support capital projects and maintenance construction activities
