Field Mechanic
Job Description
Position Summary
We are hiring a hands-on Field Mechanic to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair our sand-handling equipment — both in the shop and at the well site. The ideal candidate comes from a mining or aggregate background and is fully comfortable working on belt conveyors, hoppers, and vibrating shaker decks. Welding and fabrication experience is a strong plus, and electrical/controls experience is a strong plus. Guaranteed 10 hours (or more) overtime every week. Paid every Friday.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on belt conveyors, hoppers, vibrating shaker decks/screens, blenders, and related sand-handling equipment.
• Diagnose and correct mechanical failures in the field to minimize downtime during active operations.
• Service drive components: gearboxes and speed reducers, bearings, sheaves, and V-belts.
• Replace and tension screen panels (urethane and wire); align and track conveyor belts; splice, lace, and repair belting.
• Maintain and troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Work from mechanical drawings, schematics, and OEM manuals to guide repairs and part replacement.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, and field startups as needed.
• Document work performed, parts used, and equipment condition; communicate issues clearly to the operations team.
• Follow all site safety requirements, company procedures, and lockout/tagout standards.
Required Qualifications
• 2+ years of experience as a heavy-equipment, mining, or aggregate mechanic (or equivalent hands-on experience) or will to learn.
• Direct, hands-on experience with belt conveyors, hoppers, and vibrating screens / shaker decks.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills across gearboxes, bearings, drive systems, and hydraulics.
• Ability to read mechanical prints and confidently use hand, power, and precision measuring tools.
• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Willingness to travel to well sites and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Guaranteed 10 hours overtime each week (or more).
• Able to lift 50+ lbs, climb, and work at heights.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Preferred Skills — A Strong Plus
Welding & Fabrication
• MIG, TIG, and stick welding.
• Structural and repair fabrication — chutes, guards, brackets, skids, and wear liners.
Electrical & Controls
• Motor controls, 480V 3-phase power, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
• Sensor wiring and control-panel troubleshooting; familiarity with PLC-driven systems (Allen-Bradley / ControlLogix) is a bonus.
Also Valued
• Oilfield experience and safety credentials (SafeLand / SafeGulf, H2S, TWIC).
• Experience with speed reducers (e.g., Dodge) and vibrating-screen exciters / vibrator motors.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
• Work is split between the Midland shop and active well sites.
• Outdoor work in heat, cold, dust, and high-noise environments.
• Rotating and on-call availability during active jobs, including extended hours when equipment is running.
• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting throughout the shift.
Why SandPile
• Work directly on proprietary, in-house-engineered equipment you won’t find anywhere else.
• Growing company with a multi-basin and international footprint.
• A team that values mechanical skill, initiative, and doing the job right.
