Portfolio Accountant
Job Description
PORTFOLIO ACCOUNTANT
Location: Tucson, Arizona
Employment Type: Full-time, in-office
Compensation: $60k - $75k annually, based on experience
A privately held, multi-entity organization in Tucson is seeking an experienced Portfolio Accountant to take ownership of the accounting and financial reporting for an assigned portfolio of business entities.
This is a hands-on accounting position for someone who enjoys understanding the full financial picture—not simply processing transactions. The successful candidate will maintain accurate accounting records, complete reconciliations, support the monthly close, manage intercompany activity, and review financial statements for completeness and reasonableness.
The organization is strengthening its accounting infrastructure and modernizing its systems and processes. This position offers an opportunity to help establish consistent, scalable accounting practices while working within a collaborative and accountable team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain complete and accurate accounting records for an assigned portfolio of entities.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, allocations, and other month-end adjustments.
- Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, including intercompany receivables, payables, transfers, allocations, and shared expenses.
- Investigate and resolve intercompany differences promptly, ensuring corresponding balances agree across entities before the monthly close.
- Complete bank, balance-sheet, and general-ledger reconciliations.
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash activity, and supporting documentation.
- Participate actively in the monthly close and ensure assigned work is completed accurately and on schedule.
- Review monthly financial statements and investigate unusual balances, variances, trends, or inconsistencies.
- Prepare clear month-end notes explaining unusual financial-statement activity, significant variances, nonrecurring transactions, unresolved items, and matters requiring management attention.
- Maintain organized supporting documentation and clear audit trails.
- Coordinate with internal departments to obtain required information and resolve accounting issues.
- Identify inefficient or inconsistent practices and assist with process improvements.
- Support the transition to a modern ERP platform and help develop standardized accounting procedures.
- Provide cross-training and backup support to other members of the accounting team.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- At least three years of progressively responsible general-ledger or full-cycle accounting experience.
- Experience managing accounting for multiple entities, locations, properties, or business units strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience recording, reconciling, and resolving intercompany transactions and balances.
- Demonstrated experience preparing reconciliations, journal entries, month-end adjustments, and financial statements.
- Ability to analyze financial statements and communicate unusual activity through concise, decision-useful month-end commentary.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, data analysis, and reconciliation of large data sets.
- Experience with NetSuite or another modern ERP system strongly preferred.
- Ability to organize competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Professional judgment and appropriate discretion when handling confidential financial information.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL
- Take ownership of assignments and follow issues through to resolution.
- Review work critically rather than relying exclusively on system-generated reports.
- Ask thoughtful questions when information is incomplete or inconsistent.
- Communicate concerns promptly and professionally.
- Adapt constructively as systems, responsibilities, and processes evolve.
- Value accuracy, accountability, documentation, and teamwork.
CONFIDENTIAL SEARCH
This is a confidential search. The organization’s identity and additional position details will be shared with selected candidates as they advance through the screening process. All applications and inquiries will be handled discreetly.
To be considered, please submit a résumé describing your experience with multi-entity accounting, intercompany activity, month-end close, financial-statement review, and ERP systems.
