Experienced Inspector / Engineer
Position Summary
This is a temporary assignment at the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) for an experienced Inspector / Engineer to provide technical inspection, field engineering, and quality-control support for construction and infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of engineering principles, construction practices, inspection procedures, and applicable specifications and standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections of construction projects, materials, equipment, and workmanship to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and applicable standards.
- Review engineering plans, drawings, specifications, and project documents.
- Monitor construction activities and document progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions.
- Conduct field measurements, verify quantities, and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Identify construction issues and communicate concerns to project managers, engineers, contractors, and other appropriate personnel.
- Prepare inspection reports, daily reports, photographs, documentation, and other project records.
- Verify that materials and construction methods meet project requirements.
- Assist with resolving technical and construction-related issues in the field.
- Perform quality-control and quality-assurance inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of testing, inspections, measurements, and project activities.
- Coordinate with contractors and project personnel to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to approved plans.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations, building codes, and governmental requirements.
- Perform other related engineering and inspection duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous professional experience in engineering, construction inspection, civil engineering, or a closely related field.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and quality-control procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, blueprints, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to work independently in a field environment and make sound decisions regarding inspection and quality issues.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other applicable engineering or inspection software.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree or technical training in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Experience with transportation, roadway, infrastructure, or public works projects.
- Experience conducting construction materials testing or field inspections.
- Familiarity with TxDOT specifications, standards, and procedures.
- Relevant engineering, inspection, or construction certifications are highly preferred.
