Job Description
Position Summary
The Design License Lead Stamping Structural Engineer – PE, SE is responsible for providing advanced structural engineering expertise, technical leadership, and quality oversight across a range of projects. This role supports internal teams and external stakeholders by delivering accurate engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, and driving continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Building Codes & Technical Expertise
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of applicable building codes and standards, including IBC, ASCE 7, CBC, ASME B31, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, ACI 530, and UFC.
- Utilize structural analysis and design software such as RISA-3D, STAAD Pro, AutoCAD, Enercalc, and Mathcad.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering staff, identifying and resolving complex design issues and potential risks.
Training & Mentorship
- Support onboarding and training of new engineers.
- Apply training materials effectively and provide hands-on instruction to reinforce learning.
- Mentor junior staff to support their professional growth and technical development.
Process Development & Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with structural and senior engineers to optimize workflows and improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay current with emerging engineering practices, tools, and technologies.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery.
Product & Systems Knowledge
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of applicable products and structural support systems.
- Identify and develop new applications and solutions to improve project outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and standardization of engineering solutions.
General Duties
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned that support the overall success of the team and organization.
Typical Daily Responsibilities
- Respond to engineering inquiries from contractors, owners, steel detailers, and fabricators.
- Perform structural analyses and generate reaction loads.
- Prepare preliminary engineering calculations and Bluebeam markups/details for internal review.
- Coordinate daily with Project Managers, fabrication teams, VDC, PDM, and other internal teams.
- Conduct QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
- Review and interpret shop drawings with a strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection practices.
- Develop and review rigging and lifting plans to ensure safe construction operations.
- Advise customers on proposed construction means and methods.
- Apply knowledge of construction sequencing for design and field coordination.
- Prepare and stamp engineering packages when required.
- Maintain timely communication and responsiveness with internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and applicable building codes.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software tools.
- Experience with steel structures, fabrication, and construction practices.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
