Position Summary

The Crew Lead is responsible for leading daily field operations and overseeing the successful construction of post-frame buildings, agricultural structures, commercial buildings, residential buildings, and barndominiums.

The Crew Lead provides hands-on leadership to construction crew members by coordinating daily tasks, ensuring proper construction methods are followed, maintaining jobsite safety, and delivering quality workmanship that reflects the standards of Schwab Builders LLC dba The Barndo Co.

This position requires a strong construction background, leadership skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work alongside the crew while maintaining productivity and professionalism.

Essential Responsibilities


Field Leadership & Crew Management

  • Lead daily construction activities and assign tasks to crew members.
  • Review project plans, building layouts, and construction details.
  • Train and mentor less experienced employees.
  • Demonstrate proper construction techniques and safety practices.
  • Maintain a positive and productive team environment.
  • Communicate project updates, challenges, and material needs to management.
  • Hold crew members accountable for quality, productivity, and professionalism.

Construction Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled post-frame construction tasks including:
    • Building layout and site preparation
    • Post setting and framing
    • Truss installation
    • Roof and wall installation
    • Metal siding and roofing installation
    • Door and window installation
    • Insulation and interior finishing
    • Concrete preparation and coordination
    • Building repairs and renovations
  • Read and interpret:
    • Construction drawings
    • Building plans
    • Material lists
    • Installation instructions
  • Ensure buildings are constructed according to:
    • Schwab Builders quality standards
    • Wick Buildings specifications
    • Customer expectations
    • Applicable safety requirements


Jobsite Management

  • Maintain organized, clean, and safe jobsites.
  • Verify materials and equipment are available before beginning work.
  • Identify potential delays and communicate issues early.
  • Protect customer property and maintain professional jobsite appearance.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors when required.
  • Complete daily production reporting.

Quality Control

  • Inspect completed work before moving to the next phase.
  • Ensure accuracy in measurements, alignment, and installation.
  • Minimize rework through attention to detail.
  • Assist with final project walkthroughs when requested.


Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of construction experience preferred.
  • Experience in post-frame construction preferred.
  • Ability to lead a construction crew.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods and sequencing.
  • Ability to operate basic construction equipment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable transportation.

Preferred

  • Wick Buildings experience.
  • Agricultural or commercial construction experience.
  • Experience operating skid steer, telehandler, lifts, and other equipment.
  • OSHA safety training.
  • Experience training apprentices or laborers.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 75+ pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive construction tasks.
  • Ability to safely operate construction tools and equipment.


Compensation:

  • $25 - $30/hr depending on experience (Assuming 40 hours/week)
  • Incentive Opportunities for Project Completion, Safety, and Mentorship Bonuses
  • 1 week vacation after 90 days
