Purchasing Manager-Commercial Construction

SUMMARY: The Purchasing Manager oversees the material, and equipment purchases for the Construction Department. Duties and responsibilities will include creating purchase orders, negotiating pricing, establishing long-term purchasing agreements, and managing the overall supply chain strategy. This position is ideal for individuals familiar with supply chain and the construction industry with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant purchasing experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manage material purchases for HVAC, Sheetmetal, Piping, and Plumbing trade teams
- Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and manufacturers to manage pricing, lead times, and service levels
- Create purchase orders that are correctly coded to the correct project, GL account, and phase code for accurate cost accounting
- Utilize our warehouse and logistics capabilities to improve supply chain efficiency and maximize cost savings
- Conduct pricing analysis for new and existing product lines and lead cost reduction initiatives
- Implement standardized pricing agreements and maintain pricing within the ERP system
- Develop processes to increase collaboration between field and office personnel as well as improve communication regarding material availability through order acknowledgements and expected delivery dates
TEAMWORK:
- Willingness to work as part of a team with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foreman, and Estimators to ensure material and equipment availability
- Collaborate with field personnel to ensure material changes or substitutions are in line with our quality standards
- Continually looks for ways to improve processes, efficiency, and personal performance
CUSTOMER SERVICE:
- Performs all duties with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction
- Supports company efforts to meet production schedules and customer requirements
- Communicates professionally with supervisors and team members to resolve issues
SAFETY:
- Follows all Company safety programs and policies
- Uses required PPE at all times when appropriate
- Reports unsafe conditions, accidents, or injuries to the Supervisor or Safety Manager immediately
- Completes all assigned safety training within required timeframes

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED
- Microsoft Excel experience
- Strong negotiator
- Understanding of supply chain and purchasing principles
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to solve problems
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE: This position will primarily work in the office but will occasionally be required to visit project jobsites and meet with suppliers offsite
