Attorney

Successful law firm seeks an Attorney with experience defending, litigating general liability, workers' compensation or insurance defense to join our Overland Park, KS office.

Hennessy & Roach, P.C. is a growing and dynamic firm with an eight-state footprint (WI, IN, IL, MO, NE, IA, KS and TN).

This is a hybrid opportunity.

All candidates must be licensed or eligible for licensure in both Missouri and Kansas.

Essential Job Functions:

• Gathering and reviewing evidence and records.
• Taking depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
• Performing legal research.
• Drafting pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigating cases before a workers' compensation judge or referee.
• Represent the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Monitor loss run reports for trends and increases and alerts management to concerns.
• Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Compile and submit reports required by company management.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of the insurance company/employer.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• J.D. and licensed in Kansas or Missouri required.
• Experience in general liability, workers’ compensation defense work, general litigation experience is a plus.
• In depth knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
