Machining Technical Lead
Job Description
Constellation Search Group is looking for a CNC Technical Lead for a full-time direct hire position. This role is ideal for an experienced machinist who thrives on troubleshooting complex issues, enhancing processes, and mentoring team members to elevate their technical skills. The CNC Technical Lead will collaborate closely with the production, engineering, and quality teams, acting as the primary technical resource on the shop floor.
Responsibilities:
- Provide hands-on technical guidance to CNC machinists during daily production activities.
- Troubleshoot dimensional issues, machine alarms, tooling failures, and setup problems.
- Enhance cycle times, tool life, quality, and process efficiency.
- Support CNC program adjustments, including G-code edits, offsets, and toolpaths.
- Recommend cutting tools, holders, fixtures, and machining parameters.
- Review initial setups and first-piece inspections to meet blueprint and quality standards.
- Assist with production scheduling and workflow priorities across various machines.
- Support prototype work, new product launches, process development, and tooling trials.
- Create and maintain setup documentation and standard work instructions.
- Train machinists on setups, machine operation, blueprint interpretation, measurement techniques, and quality expectations.
- Mentor apprentices, junior machinists, and new team members.
- Reinforce safety, productivity, and quality standards through coaching.
- Partner with engineering, quality, and production leadership to resolve technical issues.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum five years of hands-on CNC machining experience.
- Experience with multi-turret machining operations.
- Advanced knowledge of CNC mills, lathes, multi-axis equipment, and precision measurement instruments.
- Strong ability in blueprint-reading and GD&T.
- Competence in diagnosing complex machining, setup, tooling, and dimensional problems.
- Familiarity with G-code, CAM software, or CNC controls such as Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to train, coach, or mentor machining personnel.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds during the workday.
- Preferred qualifications include an associate degree or technical training in machining, manufacturing, or engineering, and experience with setup sheets or technical training materials.
