Job Description
The Shipper plays a key role in the shipping and receiving process by categorizing freight, organizing and palletizing products, and working closely with a team to ensure accurate and efficient deliveries. This position involves preparing shipments according to instructions, verifying product counts and condition, packing and labeling boxes, and loading outbound freight while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area.
Responsibilities
- Categorize freight and organize products for shipment, including palletizing items for efficient loading and transport.
- Follow shipping instructions from the computer system, paperwork, or supervisor to prepare orders accurately and on time.
- Count, verify, and check items before shipment, and promptly report any missing, damaged, or incorrect products to the supervisor.
- Pack boxes securely, apply appropriate labels, and ensure all shipments are weighed correctly according to company standards.
- Load trucks, trailers, or containers by hand, following safe lifting and loading practices.
- Use a computer to locate products, update shipment status, and maintain accurate shipping and inventory records.
- Operate RF scanners to pick, receive, and track items, ensuring accurate inventory and order fulfillment.
- Report broken equipment, safety hazards, or operational issues to the supervisor to support a safe and efficient work environment.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards, following housekeeping and safety procedures.
- Complete daily reports and other required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Follow all company rules, policies, and safety guidelines while performing shipping and material handling tasks.
- Assist with other warehouse and shipping-related duties as requested to support overall operations.
Essential Skills
- Previous shipping and warehouse experience, including hands-on involvement in shipping and receiving activities.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds repeatedly and safely throughout the shift.
- Experience using RF scanners for receiving, picking, and loading products.
- Proficiency in basic computer use to check product locations and update shipment information.
- Knowledge of shipping, inventory, and material handling processes.
- Ability to load trucks or containers by hand while following safe lifting techniques.
- Strong attention to detail when counting, checking, packing, and labeling items.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from paperwork, computer systems, and supervisors.
- Commitment to following safety guidelines and reporting equipment issues or hazards promptly.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- General shipping experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
- Experience with inventory control and tracking using RF scanners or similar devices.
- Familiarity with material handling practices, including organizing and palletizing products.
- Comfort working in a team-oriented environment and supporting coworkers as needed.
- Ability to complete basic documentation, daily reports, and shipping paperwork accurately.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Northampton, MA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.30 - $22.80/hr.
