This role involves operating and monitoring a variety of production equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment to assemble components that meet defined quality standards. You will set up, run, and adjust assembly machinery, perform quality checks using gauges and visual inspection, and maintain a clean and safe work area. The position requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to safety and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner with a strong emphasis on product quality.
  • Follow all company and departmental procedures, including regular attendance, punctuality, and adherence to work instructions.
  • Comply with all safety rules, including Lock Out / Tag Out procedures, and maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Report any unusual conditions, equipment issues, or safety concerns promptly to the appropriate lead or supervisor.
  • Set up and operate all production machinery within the Assembly Department, including presses, hydraulic equipment, ink machines, electro-etch equipment, ovens, fitting equipment, and swaging machines.
  • On presses, select and change press dies, pins, and stake, stamp, and fit fixtures, installing shims when necessary.
  • Adjust hydraulic pressure and stroke length as instructed, and select and change fixtures, plates, rods, and spacers as needed while choosing the correct program.
  • Operate ink equipment by changing formats, adjusting track and speed, and switching between rotary or track positions as required.
  • Operate electro-etch equipment by selecting and changing pins, pads, and settings, and using the correct etching solution.
  • Set and adjust oven temperature and timer settings according to process requirements.
  • Perform fitting operations by selecting and changing fixtures, pins, and shims to achieve proper assembly.
  • Operate 2-piece swage equipment by selecting and changing dies and pins and installing bushings as needed.
  • Operate swage equipment for spherical inserts by selecting and changing dies, pins, shims, and springs.
  • Sign out all required gauging equipment from Quality Assurance and set gauges according to print specifications.
  • Check parts for correct fit, centering, staking, stamping, and proper marking using visual inspection, touch, or appropriate gauges.
  • Run first-piece parts when required, make necessary adjustments to achieve quality characteristics per print specifications, and complete all required setup approval paperwork.
  • Load parts into equipment as instructed, cycle machines, and perform periodic checks at designated intervals to maintain quality standards.
  • Make process adjustments during production runs to ensure parts continue to meet print specifications throughout the operation.
  • Move parts to and from the work area, including weighing or scaling parts as needed.
  • Wash parts prior to running them through the assembly process when required.
  • Monitor and maintain all machine fluid levels to ensure proper equipment operation.

Essential Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand and work with mechanical systems and components.
  • Competency in basic shop math to support measurements, calculations, and gauging.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions accurately and consistently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, suppliers, and plant leadership.
  • Experience operating production and machine equipment in a manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education, trades training, or technical certifications related to manufacturing or mechanical fields are preferred.
  • Experience with setting up and operating multiple types of assembly and production machinery.
  • Familiarity with using gauging equipment and interpreting print specifications.
  • Experience working under formal safety procedures, including Lock Out / Tag Out.
  • Ability to complete production and setup documentation accurately.

Work Environment

This position is based in a manufacturing plant within an assembly department that operates in a fast-paced production setting. You will work primarily with production machinery such as presses, hydraulic equipment, ink and electro-etch machines, ovens, fitting equipment, and swaging machines, as well as hand tools and gauging devices. The role follows an evening shift schedule from approximately 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday through Friday. The environment requires adherence to safety rules, including Lock Out / Tag Out procedures, and maintaining a clean, orderly work area. You can expect to handle parts, move materials to and from the work area, wash parts, and monitor machine fluid levels as part of daily operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Montgomery, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $19.50/hr.
