Job Description
The Boat Welder performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, installations, and specialized welding work on boats and ships in a harbor environment. This role focuses heavily on MIG and TIG aluminum welding on marine vessels, ensuring high-quality workmanship and safe, reliable operation of multi-million-dollar boats.
Responsibilities
- Perform MIG and TIG aluminum welding on boats and ships, typically working with material thicknesses ranging from 1/4 inch to 5/8 inch.
- Carry out routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on marine vessels in the harbor.
- Install and fabricate aluminum components and structures on boats, ensuring precise fit and finish.
- Work within a shipyard and harbor environment to support marine repair projects from start to finish.
- Inspect welds and fabricated parts to verify structural integrity, quality, and adherence to specifications.
- Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working outdoors and around marine equipment.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working on high-value, multi-million-dollar boats.
- Communicate respectfully and effectively with supervisors, crew members, and other trades on-site.
Essential Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with MIG aluminum welding.
- Strong hands-on experience with TIG aluminum welding.
- Proficiency welding aluminum in thicknesses ranging from approximately 1/4 inch to 5/8 inch.
- Demonstrated ability to perform fabrication tasks on aluminum components.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair structural and fabrication issues on boats and ships.
- High level of professionalism, including respectful communication and reliable work habits.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing clean, structurally sound welds.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience working in a shipyard or marine repair facility.
- Experience working on high-value or luxury marine vessels.
- Ability to read and interpret basic fabrication requirements and instructions.
- Strong sense of personal presentation and pride in workmanship.

Work Environment
This position is based outdoors at the Ventura Harbor in a shipyard and marine repair setting. You will work around boats, ships, and related marine equipment in a physically active environment. Conditions can include varying weather, exposure to the elements, and the need to work safely around water and heavy equipment. A neat, professional appearance and respectful conduct are expected at all times, reflecting the high value of the vessels and the traditional, old-school culture of the worksite.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ventura, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
