Halcyon Days Consulting, LLC (HDC) is a veteran owned small business that specializes in the design and engineering of Tactical Mission Networks (TMN). This is a unique opportunity to join a small and high-performing team committed to delivering cloud platforms for exciting missions.
We’re looking for a mission-focused Software Systems Engineer to tackle technical challenges that directly impact operations. You’ll join a lean team building and automating infrastructure that powers missions, from edge servers to cloud applications. If you thrive on owning the full stack and solving problems in high-consequence environments, this role is for you.
RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES:
Design, manage, and automate Linux-based systems and infrastructure that underpin mission networks
Build and maintain custom tooling to accelerate workflows and reduce operational friction
Develop and integrate RESTful APIs to ensure seamless interoperability across mission-critical systems
Engineer and optimize containerized applications for both local deployments and secure cloud environments
Support provisioning and lifecycle of systems integrated with Azure Cloud to deliver operational readiness
Collaborate on architecture decisions that improve mission agility, resiliency, and performance
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across OS, network, and application layers under real-world constraints
Own problems end-to-end, from investigation through resolution, with a mission-first mindset
Required Skills
Strong experience working with Linux system tools and services in production environments
Proficiency with Bash scripting and command-line operations
Self-directed with a track record of independently learning and solving problems under pressure
Practical experience developing/debugging Python-based tools, scripts, or APIs
Deep familiarity with containerized applications (multi-stage builds, Docker Compose, container internals)
Working knowledge of Azure Cloud environments
Solid understanding of REST APIs — design, integration, and troubleshooting
Clear communicator with proven ability to collaborate and document technical work
Self-directed with a track record of independently learning and solving problems under pressure
Desired Skills:
Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (Pulumi, Terraform) to enhance mission scalability
Comfort reviewing and contributing to CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, etc.)
Familiarity with embedded Linux or edge computing environments supporting tactical deployments
SALARY RANGE:
$140,000-180,000
This salary range is an hourly exempt (exempt from overtime) position. Benefits are provided in addition to the salary range.
