Position Summary

The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the exterior grounds, landscaping, and outdoor areas of the facility in a clean, safe, orderly, and well-maintained condition. This position performs routine landscaping, general grounds maintenance, litter removal, and minor outdoor repairs while supporting a safe and welcoming environment for patients, employees, and visitors.

The Groundskeeper is expected to work independently, demonstrate good judgment, follow safety procedures, and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns to management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain lawns, landscaping, walkways, parking areas, patios, outdoor patient areas, and other exterior areas of the facility.

  • Mow, edge, trim, weed, rake, blow, and perform other routine lawn and grounds maintenance.

  • Plant, water, prune, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscaping as needed.

  • Remove leaves, branches, trash, debris, and other materials from facility grounds.

  • Maintain outdoor areas in a clean, orderly, and presentable condition.

  • Inspect grounds regularly for safety hazards, damaged equipment, lighting issues, trip hazards, or other maintenance concerns.

  • Report safety hazards, property damage, security concerns, or maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.

  • Assist with seasonal grounds maintenance, including snow/ice removal where applicable, storm cleanup, and preparation for severe weather.

  • Operate and maintain basic landscaping and groundskeeping equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, blowers, rakes, hand tools, and other approved equipment.

  • Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and safe condition and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment.

  • Perform minor repairs and general maintenance tasks within the scope of the position.

  • Assist with moving outdoor furniture, supplies, equipment, or other items as directed.

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and professionalism when working around patients and staff.

  • Follow all facility policies regarding patient privacy, confidentiality, safety, security, and conduct.

  • Follow applicable OSHA, environmental, infection prevention, and facility safety requirements.

  • Maintain a safe work area and use appropriate personal protective equipment when required.

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies or urgent facility needs within the scope of the position.

  • Complete assigned work orders and maintenance requests in a timely manner.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications
  • Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, maintenance, or related experience preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate basic landscaping and groundskeeping equipment.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify safety or maintenance concerns.

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to interact professionally with patients, employees, visitors, and vendors.

  • Must maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries in a behavioral healthcare environment.

  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on facility needs.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work outdoors for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds.

  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.

  • Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment and tools.

  • Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks as required.

Work Environment

This position works primarily outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions, landscaping materials, dust, dirt, insects, noise, and equipment. The Groundskeeper may also work around patients, staff, visitors, contractors, and other individuals on facility property.

The employee is expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor and follow all facility safety, security, confidentiality, and workplace conduct requirements.
