Job Description

Directional Drill Operator (HDD) – Fiber Construction – Reno, NV

8 Openings | Full-Time | $28–$40/hr

Summary: We're hiring 8 experienced Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) Operators for an active fiber optic construction project in the Reno, NV area. You'll run directional drilling equipment to bore and install fiber conduit on a crew that works a steady 3-weeks-on/1-week-off rotation, with hotel, meal per diem, and flights home all covered. This is ongoing project work, not a short-term gig — long-term placement for operators who show up and run a safe, productive rig.

Pay & Schedule:

  • Pay: $30–$40/hr, weekly pay
  • Schedule: 5 days on, 12-hour shifts
  • Rotation: 3 weeks on / 1 week off, with paid flights home each rotation
  • Lodging: Hotel provided, fully covered by the company
  • Meals: $225/week per diem for food and incidentals
  • Job Type: Full-time, project-based, travel required

Responsibilities:

  • Operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment to bore and install fiber optic conduit along planned utility routes
  • Set up and break down drill rigs, drill pipe, and downhole tooling at each bore site
  • Read bore plans, utility locate markings, and job-site drawings to avoid utility strikes
  • Track drill head position and steering using locating equipment throughout the bore
  • Perform pre-shift equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues
  • Coordinate with locators, potholers, and ground crew on each bore
  • Maintain accurate daily production, footage, and drilling logs
  • Follow site safety protocols on active fiber construction sites, including traffic control zones

Requirements:

  • Hands-on experience operating an HDD/directional drilling rig on a construction crew
  • Willingness to travel and work a 3-weeks-on/1-week-off rotational schedule
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 5 days a week, in outdoor/active job-site conditions
  • Reliable, safety-first mindset on active construction sites

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):

  • CDL
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
  • HDD-specific certifications or manufacturer training

Benefits:

  • $30–$40/hr, weekly pay
  • Hotel accommodations fully covered
  • $225/week meal per diem
  • Flights home paid every rotation
  • Long-term, ongoing project pipeline — not a one-off job

Reno, NV (project-based — travel to job sites required)
