POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the branch and association leadership, the Aquatics Director will uphold the rules and the guidelines of the pool to ensure the safest environment for all members. This position will help oversee all part-time staff, Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Swim Team Head Coach and Assistant Coaches. This is a leadership level position that will organize daily scheduling of 2 pools, staff trainings, teaching of swimming lessons and Life Guarding. This role will also help oversee daily aquatic programming, develop new programs, manage the department budget, supervise staffing, and ensure all safety aspects for the aquatic center are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To ensure the safety of every individual at the YMCA, both in and around the pool as well as the rest of the facility.
- To enforce regulations pertaining to showers, food and drink, conduct.
- To help in maintaining the premises in a clean and sanitary condition.
- To maintain accurate records as required by the CT Health Department Sanitary Code.
- Be acquainted with other available facilities and activities.
- To learn and review all emergency procedures.
- Manage the daily operations and personnel of assigned department and programs.
- Supervise all aspect of swim team -including registration, payments/collections, working with coaching staff on practice schedule, swim meet schedule, team fundraising, and parent communications.
- Recruit, train, supervise and develop staff members and volunteers to conduct programs and services. Monitor and evaluate performance.
- A general understanding of financial management principles, including budget preparation and management.
- Responsible for ensuring required swimmer to lifeguard ratios are always followed.
- Ensure all YMCA compliances, state/local Health permits/compliances, and OEC camp licensing requirements are met each year.
- Works closely with other departments for cross programming opportunities.
- Participates in the annual support campaign and special events.
- Participates in Director on Duty responsibilities within the branch.
- To attend all staff meetings and in-services as required.
- To maintain all certifications required by the YMCA of Greater Hartford.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must have current YMCA Life guarding or Red Cross Life guarding.
- At least 2 years of experience teaching children and adults swimming lessons.
- Must have CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification, AED, and Oxygen Administration.
- Must have Basic First Aid certification.
- In addition to the above requirements, it is expected that the Aquatics Director will bring to his/her position maturity, responsibility, positive values and sincere interest in working with people.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 30 pounds in weight.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
