The Psychiatric Collaborating Physician, Long Term Care provides clinical collaboration and oversight for psychiatric advanced practice providers delivering telemedicine services to residents of skilled nursing and long-term care facilities. This is primarily a consultative role focused on clinical support, regulatory compliance, and high-quality geriatric psychiatric care.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the collaborating or supervising physician for assigned psychiatric advanced practice providers in accordance with applicable state requirements, written agreements, and organizational policies.
  • Remain available for scheduled consultation regarding complex psychiatric conditions, medication management, resident safety concerns, goals of care, and appropriate escalation or transfer decisions.
  • Complete periodic case or chart review and provide clinical feedback as required by law, payer standards, collaborative agreements, or organizational policy.
  • Support safe psychotropic medication use, appropriate monitoring, gradual dose reduction when clinically indicated, and efforts to reduce avoidable psychiatric transfers and hospitalizations.
  • Collaborate with psychiatric providers and clinical leadership, maintain required collaborative practice documentation, and participate in limited quality-review meetings as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Routine direct patient care is not expected unless separately requested and mutually agreed upon.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree with current board certification in Psychiatry.
  • Active, unrestricted physician license in Arkansas, or willingness to obtain additional licensure as program needs expand.
  • Current DEA registration and controlled-substance authority, as applicable.
  • Ability to meet applicable collaborative or supervisory requirements, along with sound clinical judgment in psychiatric medication management and escalation of care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting nurse practitioners or other advanced practice providers.
  • Long-term care, skilled nursing facility, geriatric, dementia care, or medically complex patient experience.
  • Previous telemedicine experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work and complete training remotely
  • Ability to remain in a seated position for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive keyboard and computer tasks
