Overview
Group 1 Automotive, Inc. is seeking a Legal Intern will provide valuable support to Group 1’s corporate legal department by assisting with legal research, drafting legal documents, and performing various administrative tasks. This paid internship offers a unique opportunity to do substantive work and gain hands-on experience as to the roles and responsibilities of a corporate legal department.
Responsibilities
- Effectively perform legal research and analysis.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and proofreading legal documents, such as commercial contracts and memos, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Gain an understanding of how legal and regulatory compliance helps business units develop their overall strategy and business goals.
- Attend meetings with attorneys and business clients and take detailed notes, summarizing key points and action items to meet project deadlines.
- Assist in preparing and organizing documents for court filings, including assembling exhibits and creating document indices.
- Collaborate with, and provide support to, other team members that contributes to the overall success of the legal department.
- Gather practical in-house experience in a variety of disciplines and learn how the company achieves its core values.
Qualifications
- Candidate should be a second-year law student with a strong academic record.
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to gather, interpret, and present information effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in using legal research databases and software, such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Familiarity with legal terminology, procedures, and principles.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Candidate must provide a resume and an unofficial law school transcript.
