Location: North Houston, TX (77032)

Position Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $75,000 / year

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our client's engineering team in North Houston. This role focuses on designing custom mechanical systems and supporting products from initial concept through production.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 2 to 5 years in mechanical design, with preference for rotating equipment experience (compressors, pumps, or generators).

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical industry experience.

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of core mechanical design principles; experience with pressure systems or vessel design standards is a plus.

  • Software Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor; SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software experience is preferred.

  • Soft Skills: Clear communication, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Custom Equipment Design: Create tailored equipment designs and perform engineering calculations based on client specifications.

  • Layouts & Documentation: Draft detailed component layouts, design specifications, and product documentation for new and existing systems.

  • P&ID & BOM Integration: Develop Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and integrate them into manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs).

  • CAD Modeling: Build and refine precise mechanical models and assemblies using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor.

  • Engineering Change Management: Process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Design Notifications to track design updates.

  • Documentation Control: Organize engineering files and technical records to ensure accessibility and compliance.

  • Code & Safety Compliance: Verify that all designs meet local, national, and industry safety standards and performance targets.

  • Prototyping & Testing: Support prototype builds, design testing, and manufacturing setup.

  • Supply Chain Support: Prepare accurate BOMs and material specs to assist procurement and purchasing teams.

  • Production Support: Provide technical troubleshooting assistance to assembly, manufacturing, and quality control teams on the shop floor.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Assist sales, marketing, and field service teams with technical product details.

  • Safety & Sustainability: Adhere to workplace safety protocols (OSHA/SafeStart) and support sustainable design initiatives.

  • Travel: Travel occasionally (daytime or overnight) to support off-site operations as needed.
