We are currently seeking a skilled and safety-focused Diesel Technician / Mechanic to support our school bus and motorcoach fleet operations in Ridgeland, Mississippi. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs), diagnostics, repairs, and roadside service work while ensuring all vehicles meet company, DOT, manufacturer, and state safety standards. Passenger transportation experience is strongly preferred due to the safety-sensitive nature of school bus and motorcoach operations.

Position Summary

Diesel Technician / Mechanic performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair work on school buses, motorcoaches, and support vehicles. The technician must maintain a strong safety mindset, accurately document repairs, and support fleet reliability and uptime initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in heavy-duty diesel systems including Cummins engines, air brake systems, electrical diagnostics, HVAC systems, and emissions-related repairs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnosis and repair of diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC, air brake systems, steering, suspension, and emissions systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and routine maintenance services.
  • Change oil, filters, fluids, belts, hoses, batteries, and other service items.
  • Assist senior technicians with repairs to engines, brakes, suspension, steering, HVAC, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform basic diagnostics using shop tools and computerized diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect vehicles for safety and report repair needs.
  • Maintain accurate repair orders and maintenance records.
  • Keep the shop, tools, and work areas clean and organized.
  • Assist with road calls and emergency repairs as assigned.
  • Follow OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and company safety policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical concerns using diagnostic software and test equipment.


Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three or more years of heavy-duty diesel repair experience.
  • Working knowledge of diesel engines, air brake systems, HVAC, suspension, steering, and electrical systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair vehicles using computerized diagnostic software.
  • Valid EPA Section 608 Technician Certification.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within six months of employment.
  • Willingness to obtain Passenger (P) endorsement as required by the employer.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must pass DOT pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck (T-Series) and/or ASE Transit Bus (H-Series) certifications.
  • Experience with Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Allison, Caterpillar, or similar heavy-duty systems.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience using Fleetio maintenance software is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Shop environment with exposure to noise, heat, cold, fumes, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting.
  • Occasional weekend or on-call work may be required.
