Work Location: Bradenton, FL. As part of this role, you will:Perform comprehensive assessment of patients' clinical condition and psychosocial needsincluding caregiver needs during the perioperative periodObserve behavioral and physiologic changes due to medications; take appropriate actionand documentsDemonstrates knowledge of drugs, actions, and side effects of medications administered.Protects patient's right to privacyProvides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriateCommunicates clearly and concisely, assessment and reassessment of the patient incharting and with notification of surgeon and/or anesthesiologist as necessary; collaborateswith all other health-care personnel and physicians in the delivery of coordinated patientcareProvides patient with explanations and verbal reassurances as appropriateAssesses patient's physical and emotional response(s) to treatment(s); observes behavioraland physiologic changes due to medications, takes appropriate action, and documentsinterventions and response to interventionsEducates patient/caregiver regarding the perioperative experienceCoordinates and supervises teaching and education to the patient and caregiverImplements a plan of care safely and effectively; provides a safe environmentMaintains clinical skill competencies appropriate to areas of specialtyDemonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side effectsCommunicates relevant information to appropriate members of the healthcare teamConsistently, accurately, and legibly completes documentation promptlyPrepares unit for subsequent patientsCounts narcotics at the beginning and end of all shifts with another RN per facility policyAttends all mandatory in-services and required staff meetingsRecognizes own limitations, seeks assistance, and acquires sufficient information necessaryto function effectively in the assigned settingIntegrates cost-effective measures into practiceParticipates in unit-based CQI programs as assignedProvides comprehensive care according to patient's age and stage of growth anddevelopment: Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and/or GeriatricDemonstrates ability to function independently; demonstrates ability to multi-taskCross-trains to a minimum of two clinical areasPerforms all other duties as assignedKEY RESPONSIBILITIES: OPERATING ROOMEnsures patient readiness for surgery including, but not limited to, NPO status, medicationadministration, timeout protocol, and chart completenessImplements the plan of care safely and effectively and provides a safe environment,including, but not limited to:Positioning patient safely, padding bony prominences, and ensuring respiratory andcirculatory protectionEnsuring correct prepping and draping proceduresEnsuring asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to the sterilefield aseptically; ensures supplies are not expiredAccounting for all sponges, needles, and sharps during and after the proceduresand documenting appropriatelyDemonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning O.R. suites before, between, and aftercasesAccurately records, labels, and handles specimensCan perform all duties of a circulating room nurseGives thorough report of patient's intra-operative condition to PACU nurseCollaborates with other members of the surgical team to ensure efficient turn-around timebetween each procedureKEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PREOP/PACU NURSEUtilize advanced assessment skills to identify patient care problems, formulate patient careplansPerform initial preoperative assessment, develop a plan of care, and explain the subsequentphases of surgeryProvide comfort measures and psychological support to the patient and family membersDemonstrate proficiency in caring for patients who have received various types ofanesthesia or conscious sedationAdminister medications by direct intravenous and other routes as directedProvide patient education
