Family Support Specialist / Family Resource Specialist
Family Centered Services | Grant County, Indiana
$15.00–$18.00/hour | Full-Time | 36 hours per week
Family Centered Services is seeking a compassionate and dependable Family Support Specialist / Family Resource Specialist to join our Healthy Families team serving families throughout Grant County.
This position works directly with parents and young children, helping families build stronger relationships, develop parenting skills, identify goals, and connect with community resources. Much of the work takes place in family homes, so this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building relationships, working independently, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families.
What You'll Do
In this dual role, you will support families from their initial referral through ongoing Healthy Families services.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting interviews and screenings with parents to help determine eligibility for Healthy Families services
- Building trusting, supportive relationships with families through primarily home-based visits
- Helping parents strengthen parenting skills and positive parent-child interactions
- Assisting families with setting goals and developing practical action plans
- Connecting families with healthcare providers, community agencies, and other needed resources
- Monitoring and documenting infant and child growth and development
- Identifying family needs and potential safety concerns and consulting with your supervisor as appropriate
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential case documentation
- Participating in supervision, training, professional development, and team activities
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with or providing services to young children and their parents
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Good organization, documentation, and time-management skills
- Ability to establish professional boundaries while developing trusting relationships with families
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload
- Valid Indiana driver's license
- Reliable vehicle and automobile insurance
- Willingness to travel locally throughout Grant County
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends based on family needs
Preferred Qualifications
We would especially like to hear from candidates who have:
- A bachelor's degree in human services, social work, early education, child development, or a related field
- Knowledge of infant and child development, trauma-informed care, or family support services
- Experience working with diverse families and communities
- Experience communicating in an additional language
- Infant Mental Health Endorsement or related training
Schedule
This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week position. Some evening or weekend hours may be required to accommodate working families. Schedule flexibility may be available following the training period.
The position includes regular travel throughout Grant County to meet with families in their homes and in community settings.
Training & Support
Family Centered Services provides specialized training for this role. New employees must be willing to complete required Healthy Families training and participate in ongoing supervision, coaching, and professional development.
